Unless you are 100% corporate, you will get a fair amount of litigation work, since it is an easy way for the firm to access your research and writing skills (and easy to break up for assignment purposes). In fact, even if you are 100% corporate, you may still get litigation work.

I have assessed your writing skills and decided that you need to access them.

at my firm we did closing checklists, memos on new laws, state surveys (UGH), take notes during long/boring conference calls, etc.

50 state surveys are the worst thing, ever. I've made an eternal vow that I will never make a summer do one, no matter how little substantive work I can generate for him.

Credited. I also did a small amount of contract diligence (think 10-15 hours) and some relatively simple memos regarding state corporate laws for deals.
