That wouldn't have worked. With no cost to Russia they would have just attempted to take out the UKR gov't in the near future. They don't think any of these ex USSR states (especially belarus and ukr which have a special connection to Russia) should be completely independent. It's an imperial ambition that Putin talked about the day before the invasion. With a cost-benefit like that, invading in the future is a no brainer from the russian viewpoint.
Ukr is acting rationally. They have to drive up the cost of the invasion until at the very least there is significant opposition to the war within the ranks of military leaders and the Russian security state. Best case scenario is putin dying or being removed. Otherwise, a future invasion will always be a viable option. The whole imperial model has to collapse for any long-term peace.
And lol at the notion that Israel and the CIA are in this together. Israel has not been supportive at all and even denied US attempts to get them to ship arms to Ukr. |
