30 MCAT isn't enough. Rad onc is extremely competitive. You need to kill your USMLE and have at least some semi-prestigious research experience if you want to match in rad onc. If you couldn't cop 30 on your MCAT, most likely you would have ended up as a GP working 60 hours per week performing rectal exams on fats and olds.

match rates indicate otherwise. or are they deceptively high due to self-selection?

also, GP doing rectal exams still more credited than a killself V10 job.

Yeah, the match rates are deceptively high because most medical students are smart enough not to bother unless they have prestigious research experience and killer step I's. You usually have to gun like crazy to match in rad onc: you need research experience at the bare minimum, and you also need to do visiting rotations at schools where you hope to match (or at schools where you can shmooze a famous professor who can write you a recommendation). So it's a lot more than just getting an MCAT of 30.

isn't getting a 30 mcat like getting a 1400 sat. most people should be able to with study. and one third is verbal, which you should have already mastered if you did alright on the lsat and got through law school

In most places the hours will be longer than 9-5, but you won't work weekends, and usually there is no on-call time, either. I don't know if it is quite as credited as derm or plastic surgery, but it is still pretty fucking credited.

Well, if you only count the time that you're seeing patients, maybe it's like 9-5, but usually you come in a few hours before that for preparation, and frequently you end up staying after 5 updating your case notes and things like that. But I think there is quite a bit of variation from place to place.

I'd prefer regular old diagnostic radiology.

Lol. Ongoing care intakes are handled by nurse practitioners. Radiation oncologist generally don't have near as much patient time as regular oncologists. You have one onc for chemo and one for radiation. The radiation onc may well only speak to you once where as the regular onc or his NP will see you every 2 weeks while the treatment is ongoing.

Malpractice cases in oncology are almost unheard of. I have seen 1 in 11 years. That alone makes it credited as fuck.
