i don't think he's favored yet by the majority of people who have made final decisions, given that independents don't make up their mind until later in the fall. (altho, gallup and rasmussen have romeny ahead already.)

but, yeah, given the economic numbers romney is about to go ahead. there is still time for him to gaffe himself out of contention and he's capable of that. but unless he mega-gaffes he should win in a tight race.

i'm having a hard time figuring out the degree to which the pollsters tweak their polls. this says that gallup made a major change to its sample. i'm not into conspiracy theories, but the more i look at all the polls (incl. Ras) the more it seems that they are tweakable.

Obama was elected under a sense of crisis and his party controlled the Senate and House.

Obama could have made it his top priority to work on the economy and jobs. He could have put the interests of all Americans first. He didn't.

Instead, he chose to use the crisis for partisan ends, to spend the enormous stimulus on things that would have no impact on jobs, to wrest power from the market and our private lives and put that power in the federal government. Obama wanted to be a new Reagan or new FDR. He put himself first.
