suppose you file an honest claim for amex return protection because a merchant refused to return your item.

the claim is approved, and amex refunds your money. but you get to keep the item because, as typical, amex doesn't ask for the item back.

then you pursue things further with the merchant and eventually get the item taken back.

so you've essentially gotten refunded twice for the same item. is this in any way unethical?

at the time of your amex return protection claim, your claim was honest. amex chose not to make you send back the item. so, they're letting you do whatever the fuck you want with it. they obviously don't care. why can't you try to return it again to the retailer? or sell it on ebay? or give it to a friend?

Nigs engage in financial fraud all the time.

Everythign you talk about is something any dumb can do.

The average 80 IQ nigs welfare fraud is more complicated than the dumb scams you come up with.

it's possibly theft, but likely not under these facts. you're inching closer to theft, though.

for example, if you go to a store and return an item from their shelves & they refund you for it, that's theft.

taking something off their shelves and returning it is obviously theft.

how is double dipping on an amex return protection and then later returning the item even inching anywhere near theft?

Yes but if you return the item and get it refunded on your credit card who’s to say Amex doesn’t track that shit (thus you’re ruining a generous return protection policy for everyone and setting yourself for being cut off by Amex). I guess (((you))) could ask the return on a gift card.

Amex doesn't know if some retailer giving you a credit for x dollars is for the item they credited under return protection or some other item you bought. Credit card companies don't itemized receipts every time you buy or return something. This would be very time consuming for them to investigate. And there are annual limits on return protection anyway.

I am considering doing something like this. Bought item did not like. Retailer promised FREE RETURNS with prepaid shipping label included in box. Returned item. Less money was refunded to card than what I paid for it. I can only assume they discounted the cost of the shipping label from their "free return" but they will not respond to my emails asking for an explanation. The difference between price and refund also does not equal the initial shipping charge I paid so I am confused.

I am just going to chargeback the entire purchase and tell them to fuck themselves. Keep the refund and the chargebacked cost.

DBG, do you ever cop price drop protection from the credit card AND the merchant? It's 180^180.
