monoculture was just a way for boomers to force their nostalgia down younger generations throats. literally every show on tv was about the beatles, woodstock, or white inner city life.

when tv's became cheaper and kids could put one in their room. I could watch in living color in my bedroom while my parents watched SNL in the living room.

There was still a monoculture by Gen though. Everyone that age fondly remembers In Living Color. What is the equivalent for teens now? Skibidi Toilet or something?

We never had a monoculture. Or at least none of us here except maybe Old HLS. We just didn't let our differences divide us nearly as much and didn't give a fuck unless something hurt or encroached on us--in which case we'd punch it in the fucking face
I guess in retrospect, that lack of monoculture was really the start of the fragmentation that's gone on. Fucking boomers stole everything form us, and the silent generation who knew better and who should have drowned the motherfuckers in bathtubs across the land shirked their duty

Most of you may be too young and/or were too stupid as prepubescent children to notice, but pre-cable was 1000x more of a monoculture than anything that came after ~1995 or so when cable reached market saturation and the internet was on the horizon. When I was in elementary school it was basically Ron Burgundy levels of importance for the fucking local news. Like they could say “new studies show that wearing shoes on your feet may help prevent heart disease” and you’d see hundreds of motherfuckers wearing shoes on their feet the next day.
