Describe the economic impact of people literally working a full 55-60 minutes of the hour, every hour, for the duration of their working hours over a month. Not sure what the number is now, not sure it’s knowable really, but I would guess it’s somewhere between 5 and 20% of time “at work” spend working.

40 hours per month is only like 2 hours per day. I think this would be a problem for a lot of industries

Productivity would increase like 400% and people would be bullish on stocks.

There’s only so much room to actually be productive. Most people slack at work in part because there’s only 10 hours of actual work per week to be done. If everyone was productive there’d be layoffs because there’d be excess labor at companies

basically nothing because most of the people who aren't working wouldn't be able to do anything particularly useful. it isn't like there's some great shortage of unskilled manual labor, much of our employment is already essentially jobs programs to keep people sane

the problem isn't people not working, it's that our entire society is structured around work/wages and we don't have an answer for ever decreasing demand for labor

its not just that but theres no real mechanism for routing people into useful fields, much less incentivizing them. still just go to college and hope the paper pushing thingn works out for most.

that's true as well, and I think it's the fallout of the boomer era when anyone who went to college could get some random paper filing job and have a middle class life. those jobs don't exist anymore because it's now all software

the hypo seems similar to something like this:

Imagine instead of taking an hour to drive from miami to fort lauderdale, you spent 4 hours doing it

Look last time I drove from Miami to ft Lauderdale it was only like 50 minutes. You just have to time the traffic better
