cities are an antiquated concept that doesn't make sense with modern technology. better question is what will happen to them vs. suburbs.

A better question is how long with the 20th century/early 21st century housing supply last. You don’t see many houses from prior to 1950 still standing and the ones that are have huge expensive upkeep

All up and down the coasts and across the midwest. There's no shortage of older pre1950s housing stock. Just like with newer housing, old houses run the gamut from well built solid as a rock to crappy and falling apart. And you'll find that older pre 1950 neighorhoods are among the most desirable partly due to quality and appearance of housing stock.

As for the OP, there's a national housing shortage and plenty of demand for large houses in exurban areas.

Grok, what percentage of existing single-family homes in the US were built prior to 1950?

As of 2020, approximately 13.58% of single-family detached homes in the United States were built before 1950.

This figure reflects the enduring presence of older homes within the nation’s housing stock, particularly in regions with long-established communities. For example, cities like Buffalo, New York, and Somerville, Massachusetts, have notably high concentrations of homes constructed before 1940.

The prevalence of these older homes underscores the importance of considering factors such as maintenance, renovation needs, and historical preservation when evaluating housing policies and market dynamics.

One would think a reasonably intelligent person would know the US population is much bigger now than it was before 1950 when it was 150 million, as as such a higher proportion of the housing stock postdates 1950. But the assumption that somehow the housing stock pre 1950 is disappearing due to decay is a fallacy. Much of the housing stock built from the late 1800s to 1950 is still standing.

clearly this shows that all the pre-1950s homes were complete sps and that's why there are more new homes

I can see a future where the housing shortage is so bad, some shitlib blue states allow people to buy these houses and rent to multiple families. So a McMansion will have like 12 people and 4 cars out front. This is probably already happening under the table in Canada.
