It's a decent school. There are smart people here and I like almost all my professors. The adminstration is top notch. The building and campus are nice and they have enough money to make all the student groups happy.
That said, it is still WUSTL, which isn't exactly a killer name in the job market, which is why you actually go to law school.

Maybe that's why you actually go to law school.
I'm going to law school because I enjoy studying law.
I dont care if I all I do with my JD is hang it on the wall. I made my money, this is a second career for me, and I dont have to kill myself for billable hours or kiss ass to make partner or any of that stuff.
The 2400 weekly paycheck doesn't mean much after taxes and what's the point of making it if you got no time to spend it.

Honest question: if you're not under pressure to begin law school next year, why don't you re-take the LSAT in June and re-apply? With 3 months of intense studying (and not having medical and family problems to deal with on test day), I'm sure you could get your LSAT score up to a competitive level for Cardozo.
If it's been your dream for 20 years, one extra year would definitely be worth it.

I thought about it, but I'm sick of the stuff. How many more questions about global warming, carbohydrates, and disappearance of dinosaurs can I look at before I barf. That seems to be the crux of my problem, that stuff doesnt seem real to me. I'd rather just do my prep, practice my hypos, and just go to Rutgers and do well there. Sorry if that doesnt seem ambitious enough for the exalted XOXO crowd.
I have nothing against Harvard grads per se. If you want to sell your soul to BIGLAW, then hell yes, it's better to be a Harvard grad. But not all of us are turned on by that stuff.

No I'm not in law school yet, I was talking about my paralegal prof. Had the same teacher for Civ Pro, Evidence, and Litigation. The guy was phenomenal and very very very succesful.
I realize it wasn't the in depth study but a contract is a contract and a tort is a tort whether one is a paralegal or a lawyer. The trust and estates teacher was a bastard, he went out of the way to make things hard. The harder he made it, the more I liked it. I really liked Civ Pro. Ok, so I learned more of the nuts and bolts of it, while I imagine that law school would emphazise the theory more. However, I really liked it.
I went to NYU's School of Professional Studies for the program.

So are you saying that the elements of a contract or the elements of a torts are different in law school or that there is one version of the restatement of contracts for paralegals and one for law school?
As to the Edgar Martinez guy, what year was that?
You know, every teacher that I ever had from kindergarten on pushed me to consider law school. My contract and business law prof in UG, kept telling me I was destined to go to law school. Ehglish teachers, philosophy profs. Unfortunately, lawyers dont have a good reputation in my family and also being a female, it was not considered a proper career for a woman. We were supposed to stay home and make babies in my culture

Contract and tort supply pretty basic concepts, and it is not the basic concepts that you're tested on in law school. You are tested on the interstices.
Sorry about your culture.

Well, to each his own. I realize that you're going into law because you're interested in it. But the further down the law school ladder you get, the nastier the people get, and the fewer options you'll have coming out. You will be studying this stuff for fun, but the rest of your class will be gunning for the top 10% of the class so they can get the best job possible after graduation.
But if re-taking the LSAT and waiting another year seems like more trouble than it's worth to go to Cardozo, then it can't have been that serious a dream anyway.

So everybody can go gunning for the top 10% because they have to get the best possible job after graduation. It wont bother me because I dont have to work. I can take the JD and use it for toilet paper if I wanted to.
I could go do pro-bono for the sheer satisfaction of it if I so chose to. And whose to say that not being subjected to the stress of worrying about grades, class rank, etc, wont make it easier to achieve that to beging with.
And who are you to judge if a dream is serious or not. You win some, you lose some, and some you settle on the courthouse steps. Or dont they teach that at Harvard. Sometimes one has to compromise. Waiting another year to a twenty something may be no big deal. I dont have the luxury of being twenty something.

So this is where the frat jerks come to hang out, swill beer, and get their rocks off putting people down? If that's prestige. You can keep it.
So none of you have ever vented or let off a little steam when you were disappointed? Oh, but of course, everything always goes your way.
Caring about tiers, rankings, prestige, and USNWR BS and letting that define one's worth as a human being. That's what I call pathetic.
I'm going to law school to have fun because it's what I've always wanted to do. I've got the money to do it, dont need financial aid, loans or anything else. I dont need to obsess over class rank, being top of the class and all that other bs. The jobs are already waiting for me, I just need the JD.
My goal is not to represent Touro and beat Dozo. My goal is to be the best damm attorney I can be. I know plenty of Harvard grads who are incompetent assholes. One of them is about to get canned by her boss, a graduate of one of those much maligned third tier toilets.
Schools are schools. One can excel or screw up anywhere. I doubt my clients are going to care where I went to school. All they are going to care about is that I'm good.

Attention TTTs: Yes, some Harvard grads are incompetent. SO FUCKING WHAT?! Do you know what statistics are? A few random examples does not prove the common trend false. Maybe 10 Harvard students from this year's class will be failures- nearly everyone from the TTTs will fit that category.
If you don't like USNews and prestige then you are on the wrong site. Go back to LSD where you can be congratulated on really nailing that 145 or dominating undergrad with a 2.9. If you write a good personal statement, you're in! And you deserve a free ride! And it's not what school you attend, it's what you put in! And lots of Yale grads are horrible attorneys and my best friend's third cousin's brother's mailman knows a Cooley grad who makes 100K!
STFU! YOU ARE WRONG! EMPLOYERS WILL TELL YOU THIS SOON ENOUGH.

"I doubt my clients are going to care where I went to school. All they are going to care about is that I'm good."
Of course, your clients are going to care about how good of an attorney you are. But most use law school quality as a pre-screening method for this.
Think about it: if you need a lawyer, and you could either have a Harvard Law grad or a Touro Law grad, who would you take? As a lawyer, overcoming this basic distiction with an excpetional career is certainly possible, but not something you can bank on.
I wish you the best of luck and all; just be aaware of where you'll stand and what you'll be up against once you get out.

Hmm a Harvard Grad or a Touro Grad???
Hard choice. If it the Harvard grad is anything like the idiot I used to work with, I'd take a cooley grad over her.
Sorry, I'm just not impressed by Harvard Status. For all I I know, the person got into Harvard as a legacy.
When picking a lawyer, I care about what they have in their head, not the piece of paper on the wall.

With all*uh-hum* due respect, you are a paralegal that lacked the reasoning ability to score high enough on the LSAT to get in to a decent school. What makes you think you have the standing or capacity to judge lawyers on the work they do?
Some of the most brilliant scholars in the country come across as idiots to people that dont know any better.

funny, the stuff on the LSAT never seemed real to me. But on law exams, it's a whole different ball of wax because Torts, Contracts, etc are the real deals.
Remember paralegals are the ones who make the dolt lawyers look good. As for getting into a decent school, decent means different things to different folks.
It's a free country, last time I looked and I'll judge for myself thank you very much.

Now that's really a stupid assertion, that I "chose" to do poorly as some sort of protest measure. I took my prep course, (NOT KAPLAN) studied, practiced, prepped, and was doing respectably well for what my goals required. Bombed it on test day. Go figure.
I like practicing on law exams. I loved doing the hypos and fact patterns in school. That's what I like, that's what I do. The LSAT is over. I have no desire to go through that again. I'm accepted at several schools beside Touro, I'd just rather move ahead, do well and perhaps transfer to Cardozo as a 2L.

yeah, all of I sudden I just froze and wasnt able to recover in time to to get back on track. It didnt make sense because I've always done well on standarized tests, ie. not fazed by time pressure etc. I was doing well in the prep course, had improved greatly on logic games etc.
Cant figure it out, because I can perform quite well under pressure. I remember my torts exam in paralegal class. The teacher taught and tested as if she were teaching law students. People were falling apart all around me on the final, and some walked out without completing. I finished with time to spare and got the only A in the class

The LSAT did not seem "real" because they strip all the crap away and force you to apply straight reasoning. You have no idea about law school exams yet, and that is ok, you shouldnt at this point, but stop pointing to them as something you are doing well. You may be spotting issues, but crafting a good exam is about intertwining law and analysis. There is no way for you to judge if you are doing well. Harvard exams are not much different than Cooley exams, it is the the people around you taking the samne exam that make it difficult.
I am sure that some paralegals make lawyers from Dolt look good, but that is beside the point. I work at a top firm and the generic statement that paralegals make the difference is ridiculous. I can find someone else to do my Bates labeling.

OK, let's assume that neither you nor the lawyers in question have time for you to really get to know them (which will almost always be the case). You need to pick one. All you have to go on is those two resumes in your hand.
Of course, there's a chance that the Touro grad had a bad day on the LSAT and is actually very bright and hard-working, and the HLS grad is a dolt who goofed off all through law school and might not even be as smart as the Touro grad. But is that a chance you (or anyone else) will actually want to take when you need the best lawyer you can find?

sure is, kinda makes law school seem like a breeze.
Many many many moons ago, when I was young, poor, and single, I worked nights to put myself through undergrad and support my mom and younger siblings. For fifteen years, 6 nights a week, I dealt with all the major biglaw NYC firms. The money may be great, the prestige may be great, but I decided that I didnt want to pay the price. I always dealt with the partners when they were at the worst so most of the time they weren't very nice and I decided I didnt want to spend my life in an environment like that. I'm sure that in their off-time, they were great people but it just wasnt for me.

Nothing so lucrative. I worked the graveyard shift for a courier company which served all the biglaw firms on wall street. It was funny to see how bent out of shape the attorneys got when I'd tell them.
"I'm sorry sir, I can not pick up your documents in NYC at 7am and have them deliverd by 9am in LAX the same day"
It was hysterical how they reacted. More than once I was threatened by an attorney that he would go over my head to make sure this was accomplished. Funny stuff. Go as high as you want but you cant overcome certain physical limitations such as distance and time difference

That's right, I did not say I would be ahead of people at Harvard. I like law, always have, and I like law exams. I'm a paralegal. Of course, I dont have the in depth knowledge of specific cases that law students do, but the elements of a contract are the same no matter what.
So I pull whatever old law exams I find and practice on them. Most also have sample answers. I compare my answers to the model answers and on the whole I do pretty well. I also practice with old NY STATE Bar exams. I like the thought process involved. For some reason, Contract law and UCC is very easy for me and I do well on those exams.
Why study HLS exams if I'm going to Touro? Well, think of it, according to all you high falutin jerks, Touro is a TTTTTTTT. If I can ace HLS exams, then it stands to reason that Touro exams would be a walk in the park.
Havent made up my mind where I'm going yet.

Law schools have curves. I would study Touro exams if I were you.

If I were her I would at least wait until I knew what professors I was going to have at Touro before taking any more practice tests.

I thought a gunner was somebody who talked up in class.
Anybody who preps with LEEWS knows that you keep your mouth shut in class and show your stuff on the exam.
My classmates can do their own work in law school. They arent going to skim off mine.

That's like saying because you can ace a sociology exam, a physics exam would be a walk in the park.

no really, I get a "fact pattern" emailed to me everyday. I work it and then check my answer the next day.
Todays was about some professional race car driver getting hit by a reckless driver and being no longer able to race professionally. His wife suffered emotional distress seeing her husband run down etc etc. Who can recover and what damages etc.

Actually, she didn't defer because of the tumor. She deferred for another health problem, which was resolved, and then the tumor popped up.

05 was awesome...i was in the process of creating a DEFINITIVE ALL TIME HALL OF FAME BEST XOXO THREADS thread last night (which the board really fucking needs), but i accidentally closed the box halfway through and gave up. Had links and everything for dungeonmasttter's campaign, PRANCing, blackpeoplelikeporkchops, blowjobs in auschwitz, BREAKING POINT, WOOOOOSH, etc etc.
If you or anyone else wanted to do this, youd be a true patriot. I'll add to it once its up, but I've just lost the drive to create the new thread after that crushing defeat.
