for example, edison lighthouse famously had a global hit in 1970 with 'love grows,' but they did have one more song which made the charts the following year - 1971's "It's Up to You, Petula":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpeIsj3vhFw

this was by far their second-biggest hit, since nothing else they did really charted anywhere.

singer Freedy Johnston's biggest hit by far was 1994's 'Bad Reputation,' a moderate success on mainstream and alternative radio of the time. however, he did have one additional single which made the airwaves - his 2001 cover of Edison Lighthouse's 'Love Grows':

england's Mr. Blobby scored a surprise #1 christmas hit in the UK in 1993 with this song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNkgDJpcuwU

he tried to regain the magic a couple years later in 1995 with 'Christmas in Blobbyland':

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OggFor5VXtM

however, it only got to #36, and was considered a bit of a disappointment. nonetheless, it remains his second-biggest hit, since nothing else from mr. blobby charted at all.

nicolette larson's sole mega-hit was a 1978 cover of neil young's 'lotta love.' she did have several other charting songs aside from that, the biggest of which was 'Let Me Go, Love' from the following year:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD4VHciIYJ0

as with many late-70's radio hits, it features backing vocals from michael mcdonald.

los del rio scored one of the biggest hits of the 90's with a 1995 remix of their song 'macarena.' and we don't have to venture far to find their second-biggest single - a long-forgotten 1996 christmas remix of the very same song called 'Macarena Christmas':

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMffYsGkzU4

but does that really count? what was their third-biggest release? that, in fact, was the original non-remixed version of macarena from 1993:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tajwkc22SE

can we go further? did they have a #4 hit unrelated to the fucking macarena? yes, kind of. it would be their 1999 track 'Baila, Baila'"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPsKSCypegY

otherwise, their music simply did not export very well from spain itself.

"Gold" is the followup to Spandau Ballet's #4 hit "True". It hit #29 before Spandau Ballet slipped into irrelevance in the US. It isn't a good song.

Bob Carlisle had a christian-country crossover hit in 1997 with "butterfly kisses." however, a few years earlier, he had also managed to slightly push into the mainstream charts with 1993 single called "Giving You the Rest of My Life" - this is his lesser-known second-biggest hit:

chumbawamba had a lengthy recording career going back to the early-80's in england before 'tubthumping' became a hit in 1997. though they had other charting songs in the UK, only 1998's 'amnesia' went anywhere internationally:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3e7vfZIC_U0

harvey danger actually did have a couple of minor follow-up hits to 1997's 'flagpole sitta,' the biggest of which was 2000's 'Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo':

the band Deep Blue Something had a major hit in 1995 with "Breakfast at Tiffany's," which went all the way to #1 in the UK and some other nations. but did they have a second-biggest hit?

kind of. in the US, their only other charting track was 1996's 'Halo':

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWA-FveZcaQ

but in the UK, it was 1996's 'Josey':

Marta "Martika" Marrero was a child actress who went for a more serious and mature sound on her 1988 debut album, which included the international hit 'Toy Soldiers.' but what about afterwards?

she never managed to repeat the success of Toy Soldiers, but her 1991 collaboration with Prince "Love, Thy Will Be Done" did briefly make the top 10 on the billboard singles chart:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10V_Z0_udjg

and by 'make,' i mean #10. that's as high as it went. as it happens, her husband Nikki Lee is one of the few 'true' one-hit wonders who had precisely one charting single and nothing else:

the death of jill sobule raises an interesting question - aside from her 1995 hit "I Kissed a Girl," did anything else chart? yes - a few years earlier, in 1990, her single 'Too Cool to Fall in Love' reached the top 20 of the old billboard adult contemporary chart:

the primitive radio gods actually go back into the 1980's, when they were a local band in southern california called 'i-rails.' they released a few singles, eg:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JndwtCZI-8g

but did not chart. it wasn't until 'standing outside a broken phone booth...' in 1996 that the renamed band got any attention at all. unfortunately, their follow-up single was called 'Motherfucker,' which limited its commercial appeal:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri_giYr7g-0

however, they did have a minor comeback with the soft-rock single 'Fading Out' in 2000:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEfH7TzDwEg

this was their second-biggest hit. they continued releasing singles and albums after that, some of which were well-reviewed, for instance:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZYC7NtRSt8

but did not get much airplay.

folk implosion started as a side-project from the band sebadoh, mostly following sebadoh's slacker-rock sound, but somewhat more dissonant and aggressive. but their moodier, synth-driven track 'Natural One' became a hit after appearing on the soundtrack for the movie 'Kids' in 1995.

though folk implosion continued releasing albums and singles, only one appeared to chart anywhere - 1999's 'Free to Go,' which was a minor hit in the UK:

the archies were a pop band designed to support the archie comics brand. they had a massive hit with 'sugar, sugar' in the summer of 1969, which became one of the biggest songs of that entire decade.

what is less-remembered is that the follow-up single 'jingle jangle' also made it to #10 in the fall of '69:

the toadies scored a significant rock radio hit in 1995 with "Possum Kingdom" (aka STP - Behind the Boat House.mp3 on early Napster). their second-biggest hit was the follow-up single 'Away' from the same album, which was around ¼th as successful commercially:
