1 Grand Budapest Hotel

2 Nightcrawler

3 Boyhood

4 The Babadook

5 Interstellar

Honorable Mention: Guardians of the Galaxy

I haven't seen Birdman yet because I'm a loser, but that would otherwise probably make it on here.

Yeah, I was expecting Selma to be Oscar-bait (and maybe it is), but it actually looks pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Overall, I'd agree that it was a pretty meh film year, particularly compared with 2013. Still, the handful of good films I've seen this year have been really exceptional.

In no particular order:

The Grand Budapest Hotel, Blue Ruin, A Most Wanted Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Starred Up.

On the cusp: Calvary, Under the Skin, and Locke.

Boyhood, Interstellar, Gone Girl, Snowpiercer, Edge of Tomorrow are all overrated.

wow, you thought a most wanted man was one of the best films of this year? i thought it was pure garbage. i dont understand the love for this film. calvary was way too religious, but i appreciate that it makes me understand catholic faith better, but it makes me hate religion even more. felt like watching god is not dead, but with better actors. snowpiercer is not overrated, lots of people dont like it despite it being freaking awesome. boyhood is definitely overrated, fuck all the critics that love it. it could win best picture at the oscars looks like...fuck.

I really liked A Most Wanted Man because John le Carre wrote it. I think it's the most realistic portrayal of security and intelligence services' fight against terrorism.
