This may be the case, but isn't 15 just a better cut-off than 14? If we start choosing numbers at random, why don't we just cut it all off at 9? how about 7?

What's so special about 15? It's a multiple of 5? Well 14 is a multiple of both 2 and 7. Is there something inherent about multiples of 5 that makes it especially useful for dividing schools into rankings?

Yep. We have five fingers...it's easier to count with our fingers!

Also, why do other rankings cut off their tiering at multiples of 5? (e.g. 50 (T1), 51-100 (T2), the rest TTT)?

It's just the standard everywhere else. I don't see why you guys find it necessary to change it, unless you GULC kids want to make yourselves feel a little special seeing as how you're not in the T10 (another multiple of 5)!

You may feel this way but using multiples of 5 is still completely random.

Well, I guess USNews pays people to choose random numbers for their rankings. When will you GULC kids learn that Texas is just as good. At this level, we're just splitting hairs.

But I don't feel it's just as good because I have some preconceived notion about using multiples of 5.

It has to do with historical U.S. News rankings. With only one or two exceptions, the T14 has remained constant. That doesn't mean that U.S. News is not frought with methodological weaknesses.

There is no reason. If you look at the numbers, the gap between #13 Boalt and #14 GULC is a good deal greater than the difference between #14 GULC and #15 Texas.

But, honestly, who cares? I picked Texas over Top 14 schools. Its not like real law firms talk about "The Top 14" and recognize some huge gap between 14 and 15.

I dont think I'm a troll! I had the choice just in the last 2 weeks and chose Texas over top 14 schools after doing the research. Doesn't that make me a particularly good person to comment on these issues?

True. Texas is a great school, and I'd be attending it in the fall except for the fact that I was accepted to a T5 school. If not for that, I most likely would've seen you in class.

As for UCLA...they cashed my application fee AGES AGO and still no response. It's a moot point now, but what's the hold up?

There is a difference in how deep firms will go into the class. There are jobs for the middle at top 14 schools that are not available to the middle at Texas.

My understanding is that there's always been disagreement about which school would be the 15th. There's no dispute on what the top 14 are, but is #15 Texas? UCLA? Somebody else? There's no consensus and in terms of the actual rankings it changes from year to year. Ergo...
