It’s visually stunning, but it’s also personally moving. The mountain is massive and almost incomprehensible, there’s another rise around every bend, but even with its massive size it yields to the deep blue cold ocean, which is truly unfathomable in size. And if we cannot fathom or grasp the true size of the Pacific, how can we grasp the size of Earth or our Solar System, or anything beyond? You feel so small and fragile on the Central Coast of California. The lone Monterey Cypress perched precariously on the outcropping of rock symbolizes that. You go there and feel restored and reset because you can somehow sense and feel there’s a bigger picture. It’s amazing. |
