it didn't make sense to me because it's not like she's hot. no, she's very nerdy and awkward and has a short formless body. she doesn't dress hot, doesn't act girly. zero sex appeal in my opinion. and it's not like my colleagues are asian either, they're mostly white males.
it all clicked recently at a holiday party when i met their significant others. white guy after white guy walked in with their nerdy, awkward, short, formless asian wives. the younger millenials, the older gen-x'ers, from ICs to VPs - pretty much everybody had an asian wife who looks exactly like my coworker.
when i realized what was going on, the assemblage in front of me plus the weird psychosexual work subtext i'd been unintentionally been part of, i felt huge second-hand embarrassment, but everyone carried on like it was normal. |
