Good luck bucko
They're pretty good at screening out the "this was my last choice" crowd.
Enjoy getting REJECTIONPWNED by Army/AF/Navy

AF is every other month (i.e. 6 times a year). October is the next "board selection," which means you'll need to set up an interview at the nearest AFB by Sept. 25 (roughly). Army is biannual, the next board is November (I think). Not sure about Navy, Marines, or CG.
I hope you have gobs of public interest work on your resume. Anything short of total commitment to public interest work and you're likely auto-ding... I should know, as I have my AF offer (pending bar results) and a friend of mine (with better stats) who thought JAG was a good fall-back got rejectionpwned.

Selectivity, from easiest to hardest, appears to go Army > Navy > AF. All are competitive, especially ITE. Apply to each branch and apply as many times as you can. Try to schedule the applications so that you'll get responses from your "second choice" branch first - once you've been selected you don't have much time to decide.
KILL THE INTERVIEW. And by that I mean absolutely decimate it. If you get a solid rec from them it goes a long, long way. This isn't OCI where the interviewer has probably made up his mind which 4-5 people are getting callbacks. This is your only chance to make a real impression in person, and doing so will elevate your package above everyone else.

Third year USAF JAG.
The most comprehensive JAG resource right now is actually a TLS thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31543
A number of JAG and other military contributers from the various services.
I can tell you that selection stats for USAF Direct Appointment have hovered in the 4%-5% range for the past 12-18 months. 12-20ish applicants selected for each board, x 6 boards annually.

Going to sit for Army and AF boards until I graduate, hope it works out. Really AF, would settle for Army.
What's the best way I can spin me not doing their summer program, I'm guessing they will question my commitment, "why didn't you do X," etc. Last summer I worked for a judge, this summer I did something non-law related (ouch, right?). Non-law resume has some decent volunteer work and such, but there is not a huge load of massive public interest, DA's office volunteer, etc. Am I fracked?
I do actually want the AF, with the shitty economy I spent the last year flirting with the idea of trying for OTS and dropping out, but people convinced me to stay in law school and try for JAG. I don't know why I didn't try for their 2L program...guess I thought I could get a firm job. I figure that will probably fuck me over.
Have been following the TLS thread for some time, talked with some alums from my school who are AF JAG, I'm pretty solid on the basics so at least I won't look stoopid. Does anyone know if they bother to read your personal statement, and if so what should I say beyond "desire to serve" and reasons for choosing that branch. My guess is that I will be autofail for not showing enough interest in the military in the past, but who knows?

We come from some pretty diverse backgrounds, so don't feel you are f-ed out of the gate. If you are able to articulate why you want to serve and how your career path has lead you there, you will be alright.
The personal statement will be read by the SJA before/during your interview and can influence his/her recommendation. Once it reaches the board, the PS really does not come into play until they have whittled down the applicants to a small number and the traditional rack-and-stack methods have already been used. Like in law school, a weak PS will absolutely kill you but a strong PS will not guarantee anything.
