Assume wealthy parents (net worth low eight figures) but they don't help us out much - they are willing to give us 1k-1500 a month or so to help with rent.

Say combined we make 150k and this will go up to max like 220k together in a few years in a major metro area - is it still feasible to have one child if we are willing to send it to public school?

Obviously we couldn't buy in the major metro area without financial help from parents, but what if we could buy a small place in the outskirts for around 500k - doable?

Or should we just say fuck it and work our chill jerbs and never have kids?

It is not, of course. OP is being an insufferable faggot who grew up rich. A Mexican illegal can come here and live in a "major metro area" making shit for money and somehow end up raising a kid that attends a decent college but the OP is concerned that receiving a thousand bucks in rent from his parents and making over $200,000 isn't enough to raise a kid.

Actually, a person like you should probably not have kids. Or maybe wait until you are 43 y.o. and finally financially secure to have an autistic kid that your parents and your spouse's parents will be too old or too dead to enjoy.

Eh, they won't have the same safety net if all you inherit is $5m and you max out at $250k in combined earnings. Gotta up your contributions if you want the next gen to also have the same safety net.

we'd only have 1 kid probably, so it'd be easier for it

they believe in "hard work" and other stupid bullshit and think the same opportunities are available to millennials as boomers. they think anyone can become rich if they just "work hard".

but i think, they might help with a down payment if we asked or if we had a baby and guilt tripped them ljl

How old are parents and are there siblings and other grandchildren who will share in the inheritance?

even if you're only getting like $2-3m at the end, rich parents aren't going to let your kids starve or not afford daycare/nannies. So go ahead and do it. Generational wealth is the ultimate safety net.

ty

we each have one sibling who will get money. no grandkids yet on either side. my side, not sure if there will ever be any as sibling is LGBT.

parents are mid 60s to 70.

i think total we should be getting anywhere from 2 to 6 million combined, depending on the market, and how boomers boom. my inheritance will largely be real estate in major metro (so this can keep increasing if the market is good) while spouse's will largely be cash/shares (so also heavily reliant on the market since most, if not all, of it is invested).

i just don't want my kid to have a hard life, and frankly don't want us to feel like we're living paycheck to paycheck or whatever just cause we decide to have a kid

The inheritance is fine but your more immediate need is for stuff like daycare ($2500/mo). I'm banking on the fact that even with stingy parents, they will pay if you beg for that. Just requires some begging.
