the russians didn't finish casting off the "tatars" until the early 1500's, though. so, the mongols held out for a long time in russia. |

the mongols REALLY fucking tore up the russians. they would capture russian men from one town, dress them up kind of like mongols, and force them to storm the walls of a nearby town. when THOSE townspeople realized that they were killing and dumping rocks/hot oil on people from the next town over, it had a tremendously demoralizing effect. |
