But we are in no way arduously held to the standards of behavior, decreed by a spiritual master who only saw those standards for what they were after years of religious practice, contained within its pages. We are however compelled to attain the vision which motivated that master's brilliant writing.
Perhaps one can enter the kingdom of heaven adhering to laws decreed by a man with a supreme knowledge of Christ alone, but the contemplative Christian practitioner seeks to know, as is his right, Christ for himself. |
