Bama’s WR suck ass compared to Texas’ (and UW’s and FSU’s) and that’s the whole key to how the teams match up. Texas’ D is not great in the secondary but if they can cover you (like they did the last two weeks) you’re fucked. Texas’ front 7 is full of dudes who will play in the NFL and who wrecked Bama’s OL and every other OL they played against. They choked against OU bc their DC turtled and played bend but don’t break because he is kind of a pussy by nature. But Sark was literally calling him out in every press conference the rest of the season until he started to play more press man and let the front 7 dominate. They had a run of three games where they did that in the first half and then backed off and let the other team come back (and they were playing Murphy their backup QB who appears to be pretty stupid).
By far the worst potential matchups in the CFP for Texas are UW and Mich as a distant second just because they actually have a real QB. If Texas gets in and plays Mich they have a decent shot to beat them bc their back 7 is slow and will struggle to cover Texas. And if Texas gets bama again in the final and gets to avenge their bullshit win in 2010 when Colt McCoy got hurt you would be a fool to bet on Bama. |

But they also have a balanced offense with talent across the board. The whole team is like JJ McCarthy, sort of a B+/A-. The issue with Texas is that they definitely play halves and sometimes entire games that are B-/C+. But if they play in the CFP like they’ve been playing the last two weeks I like our chances, especially if we can miss UW. Also, how do you then reconcile Texas vs Georgia? Both are 1 loss teams who lost to their rival - only Georgia is comiing off two national championships?

If head to head doesn't matter, then what is even the point of putting tough off-conference teams on your schedule? Georgia didn't win their conference and doesn't have head to head against Texas. They're not in this conversation, but to the extent it matters Texas beat the team that beat Georgia. Texas wins any Texas/Georgia dispute. |
