I know this is flame but I want to play. Do you know what her favorite color/precious stone is? What's her birthstone?

Not flame, I have a new gf and that guy's 8k engagement thread had me thinking I should get her a ring.

She's born in December 20th, wtf is a birthstone?

I prefer gold/diamond.

You can't get gold/diamond in that price range, it will be too small. You need a nice precious stone that is cheaper than a diamond but still looks good and respectable. You'll typically want something with both diamonds and that precious stone but it will save money. Something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-75CT-DIAMOND-BLUE-TOPAZ-CUSHION-CUT-ENGAGEMENT-RING-/220659572746?pt=Diamond_Solitaire_with_Accents&hash=item336055e00a

But for about 2K I can find you a nice diamond and gold ring.

It's risky to get a center stone under one carat if you don't have any secondary stones. You want either a single stone that is 1+ carats or three stones totaling about 1.5 carats. Anything else might look embarrassingly small and you're better off with a precious stone that's not a diamond.

But this link is .75 carats and it's incredibly high quality so you might get away with it, especially if she has smaller hands.

Just look at the feedback. Typically very safe and they insure your purchase price if you get screwed. They contacted me recently over some $10 purchase when I forgot to leave feedback, just to make sure everything was ok. Offered to let me speak to a live representative and everything. <3 ebay.

CITIBANK are you elaborate flame? You "decided" to become the boyfriend of your female friend over dinner two weeks ago, started posting about how she was your girlfriend the next day, and now you want to buy her a what, promise ring?

TAKE HER TO A NICE DINNER AND STOP BEING WEIRD

A sterling silver Hermes one is a pretty decent gift.

There are basically two types of women: Tiffany & Co whores and non Tiffany & Co whores. The majority of the female population falls in the former camp but *some* will appreciate you thinking outside the proverbial square on this one.

In this case, an original creation from a small artisan jeweler would be the way to go...

No, I was referring to the "Blue Box" phenomenon where in any item in a Tiffany & Co blue box becomes an automatically credited choice (regardless of subjective aesthetics, etc).
