Anyone know what is going on for summers there? I cannot imagine there will be much work with 1 partner and 13 associates. Anyone know why almost all their partners left?

Dewey LA also blew up.

hopefully the new firm would also need summers. Call up a partner you interviewed with.

Milbank PA was tiny, right?

Basically, a bunch of out-of-town firms set up outposts in SV when it was raining dotcom money. 90% have failed to take root. Gradually they will dry up and blow away.

That's not true. The main partner who left is one of the top attorneys in the area, according to Chambers. Just him and his team makes for a top-25 IP litigation practice in the bay area.

native bay area firms are mofo, townsend, wsgr, cooley and fenwick, orrick

meanwhile you have dechert, simpson, wiel, skadden, both fishes, finnegan, gibson dunn, latham, howrey, mcdermott, perkins, white and case, wilmer cutler, DLA, jones day, squire sanders..

I left off the firms I'm not sure off...

it seems like that's the vast majority of firms are satellites and not everybody is going to wsgr.

WSGR is primarily known for transactional work, isn't it? Wouldn't partners just look for the best PPP situation, as long as the firm had adequate resources? I mean, they have their own book. The team from Dewey represented Intel quite a bit.

i dont think the PPP thing would be much of a factor. It's just an average, I wouldn't be surprised if every firm has some sort of eat what you kill system.

I'm guessing if they left, it was because of politics and power. Especially if they had their own book of business.

heck, if i had intel as a client, i'd just set up my own shop and take all the profits. Something like day casebeer.

from what i heard, gray carey wasn't doing well. So they're probably not a good example of a local firm weeding out the foreigners.

wow, i didn't know fish and neave merged with ropes. At any rate, fish and neave was a NY firm as well.

The LA firms and S&C, DPW, Skadden and STB are all doing fine in Silicon Valley from what I understand. Wilmer Culter just opened an office there with former Brobeck/Weil people. Maybe premature, but they must have had a plan of some sort.

No, sorry. If you did accept an offer there, it looks like almost the whole team went to another firm in the area. Just google the name and see what is up. They may want you at the new firm, and Dewey still may have every intention of honoring your offer. Though they would probably need some more partners.
