I think rasqie's comprehension of her status on XO is, and I don't think I'm too far off-base here, roughly equivalent to that of a lowland gorilla in a zoo habitat.

For the most part, the gorilla ignores your interactions with it, preferring instead to do whatever it is that gorillas do: vomit, eat vomit, shit, eat shit, eat food to accomplish more shitting and vomiting, and either rape or be raped. This is the status quo for rasqie's posting: utterly deaf to those around her, responses that are not en rapport with anything being said.

When you choose to interact with it, perhaps tapping on the glass or aping a call to it, it can occasionally respond in a fashion that suggests some kind of primordial protoprehension. Perhaps it calls back or puts its hand on the glass. However dim its eyes typically are, they occasionally shine with the intelligence of some distant relative to higher thought. So too with rasqie: if you get on her level--if you 'ook' or tap on the glass--she can sometimes respond in kind. That is, if she is not too distracted. This is rasqie at the height of her mental powers.

Of course, zoogoers, like XOers, are cruel. (Zoogoing XOers tend to be the cruelest of all.) So, as with the ape in the habitat, we mock rasqie in her simian aspect. We point, we laugh, we bang on the glass. She reacts much as the lowland gorilla does: she ignores it, she reacts as though the attention she is receiving is positive (by comparison, freer frolicking with a fistful of vomit), or she, at great mental strain, strings together a frustrated sequence of angry ape calls and pounds her chest.

I assume that fascination with shit is the only mental property these two links in the Great Chain of Being literally share, but the analogy is too powerful to ignore.
