It depends what your objective is and the way you learn
Personally I think it is critical to understand and not just cartoonishly smear Talmudic/kabbalic Judaism, because its top proponents have taken over the world. Why and how did this happen, what evolutionary advantage did its approach give over the goyim? One does a disservice to not understand what happened here dispassionately.
One cannot fix something one doesn’t understand.
Personally, my eyes glaze over at scripture or Talmudic debates. What is helpful for me is to understand the structure of the religion and perhaps to read about the key figures such as chabad’s schneerson
