Your second point is irrelevant. Cravath and, to a lesser extent, WLRK are mega firms that need bodies. Susman is still a litigation boutique (although growing).

I understand your point, but I think the "mege-firms need bodies so they'll hire deeper in the talent pool" effect you reference is watered down a lot in the case of Cravath and WLRK. Law students and young lawyers are generally in complete awe of those firms. If CSM and WLRK wanted all HYS + fed. clerkship attorneys, they're the two mega firms that could do it,

This. Which doesn't look all that great when you think about what your bonus would be at, say, Kirkland for billing 2,800 hours.

The real benefit at Susman is that you can make partner early and after that there's a lot of "eat what you kill" opportunity (including contingency work). If you want to work hard as a litigator and make money, Susman is a place to be.

No. First year at Susman is ~$260k. You're forgetting the 50k clerkship bonus, 5k vacation bonus, and 5k signing bonus that are all paid once you start. Then you get the 160k salary. And the $40k end of the year bonus they've paid the last few years.

By the sixth year you are up for partner. And the last couple of years they've paid ~$110k in end of the year bonuses to sixth years before they make partner.

having litigated against them in 2 patent cases...they often work alongside Heim and a few other IP boutiques in cases; those boutiques have lots of good EEs who handle the technical part of cases

Heim has good lawyers; but they don't have the COA clerk types that Susman wants
