Sig lines would more or less double the length of each post and make long threads even harder to wade through (as it is, I already find threads hard to read after more than 30 posts or so).
I think the email tagline works well. Get rid of the email link so I can actually have a working link to my blog or something. Also if people do want an email link (or have a private message function), you can embed the link with the poster's name so people could just click on that and contact the poster directly. |

Additionally, there's a certain visual appeal in having a "sig" (i.e. the e-mail line) immediately to the right of a user's name, rather than at the bottom of every post. The fact that it's colored and italicized sets it off from the name, like a further commentary on the poster's personality. A little bit of insta-identity fashioning, if you will. |
