Spokesmen and women for universities default to FERPA for all sorts of stupid shit that it doesn't cover. It's just there is a provision that allows a student to proactively seek to have their identity shielded.
Most don't because they don't know about it and there are some legit reasons why you shouldn't unless you'd be seriously in danger if the wrong person was able to confirm you are a student at school X. |
