Senior year of high school:
I got into CORNELL!!! CORNELL is an IVY!!! Sweet, I'm gonna be rich!!!
While in College:
Turns out Cornell is just a college, like any other and saying "I go to an IVY" doesn't really force employers to empty briefcases full of unmarked bills in front of you...what next?
Senior Year of College:
I got into NORTHWESTERN law school!!! That's like an IVY, and it's almost top 10!!! Sweet, I'm gonna be rich!!!
Just out of Law School:
Hm...it turns out they want us to do WORK in order to get paid, and they're still not throwing enough money at me to compensate for my raging insecurity. Northwestern also seems to be a TTT...
Present Day:
I know! I'll get an MBA!!! They make TONS of money!!! And I don't even have to get into one of the top5 schools (oh, that elusive dream), pretty much any top 20 MBA is making MILLIONS after 3 or 4 years out!! It's another $100,000 in debt, but I'm going to make a ton more money than I would moving up in law. Sweet, I'm gonna be rich!!!

re Cornell - yes, in fact, I did jump for joy that I was accepted at cornell, my first choice school. Having gotten into Penn and Dartmouth already though, the Ivy thing had worn off. It was especially crude to do so at my number one catholic hs in the country.
re northwestern
had already been working in a major investment bank. NU wasn't quite top ten yet, but I knew there was no difference between the programs ranked 7 through 14, so didn't really care.
re work
I soon realized that all law schools were raging ttts, but nu was good enough apparently to get me a top fed clerkship with so so grades. What I soon reliazed though was that lawyers were tools who in the grand scheme of things, don't make much money, and don't get much respect. Just go to any motion call in federal court and you'll see what I mean.
re MBA
may not make millions, but at least I'll be a lot happier in a few years. and I'll be the client, not the client's bitch.
overall, I give you a 163. |
