fuck. i am sitting with 10 people counting everyone we know. public school pwn3d. :-(
how the hell can we claim the % employed at graduation that we do? do we only count respondents or something? we not only overenrolled in 2003, but we brought in TRANSFERS to exacerbate the situation. horrible. HORRIBLE.

first off, i am certain we don't have everyone. second, michigan had 95% employed at graduation in the last us news. i'll be interested to see what we claim next year.
the transfer thing is what really pisses people off. if you overenroll, fuck the transfers.

40 seems like a lot...are you sure?
And i doubt the transfers take away jobs from other mich students.
in an economy as strong as this one, it must be their own fault if htey are unemployed.

this is too stupid for me to offer a substantive response.
EDIT: glad you edited, you arrogant fuckwit. i would say it is *very* conservative.

your comment was that people in this economy who don't have jobs are the ones at fault. if you stood by your comment, why did you edit?
EDIT: you either changed it back, or i am too drunk to read. in either event, i am out, and wish you great happiness in life.

I imagine they will,
but when they decided to go to law school Michigan and most other school perpetuated the myth that, oh don't worry about it, everyone gets 6 figure jobs here

not saying it is, just that that was what the schools sold us as 1Ls
alot of people put themselves pretty deep in debt based on employment figures that suggested as much

Can I ask you a question unbear? Why do you think these 40 are unemployed? In your opinion what is it about them, if anything, that caused them to be unemployed?

overenrollment + transfers. as i see it, the problem is that employers arrive prepared to hire X amount of michigan students. if students enrolled is Y, students unemployed is Y-X. if Y increases by about 60 (overenrollment + transfers)...
i concede things are probably better now though.

I really dont think this explains the whole situation. Its not like the Michigan degree is less valuable to you guys than it is to those from the years before and after you. Firms still respect the name and generally want to hire Michigan students. Its not like there is a Michigan 2006 grad at every decent firm that has hired Michigan students in the past, or that there is a quota of Michigan students each market can take each year that was too small to accommodate the 2006 class.
I can definitely see how class size hurt your class during 2L OCI in the way you explain (limited interviewers, limitted interview slots, equal universe of firms to get offers from, and 10-15% more students looking for interviews and offers, etc). But as far as the post-OCI sending out of resumes and all that? I just don't see it playing THAT big a role. I've heard stories of multiple people in your year with grades above the median who couldnt find any jobs. That's inexplicable. No Michigan class has ever experienced that and size doesn't explain it.
From our year, I know only 1 person who wanted a firm job and couldnt get one--and there were extenuating circumstances. And by all accounts, the 1L class did amazingly well in 1L firm gig hiring. I also never heard complaints from the '05 grads. Clearly, this is a problem largely isolated to the 2006 class for whatever reason. Is it bad luck? A socially awkward group of people who interview poorly? Too many people focused on one or two major markets, thus failing to spread out and find all the firms looking to hire Michigan grads? Something else? I have no idea. But its more than just raw class size.

i find it particularly odd that OP suggested that, because a person with a 3.4+ couldn't get a job (that would qualify for HONORS), that means taht something is wrong with the school.
i'm sorry, but if you are set to graduate with honors and can't manage to secure an offer, YOU are the problem, and NOT the school.

TITCR.
too many idiots on this board think that, after the LSAT and acceptance, you never have to impress someone again in your life. that 3.4 bitch should stop resting on her laurels and learn how to fucking interact with human beings.

"Its not like the Michigan degree is less valuable to you guys than it is to those from the years before and after you."
- we're discussing OCI from 2004 -- i don't see the relevance of classes in 2003 and 2005 on the situation.
"No Michigan class has ever experienced that and size doesn't explain it."
- how could you possibly know this?
"I have no idea. But its more than just raw class size."
- it seems strange you would simultaneously have no idea what the actual cause of the problem is, and yet be certain my assessment is inadequate.

there is an oversupply of lawyers period. Also, those that are unemployed are probably unemployed by choice there are tons of shit law jobs they could be doing, but probably dont want to settle for. If they were really desperate they would go be paralegals or something (they could make 60k doing this is biglaw).
