i sold some arcane specialty hardware on eBay that i listed as "seller refurbished." in the description i reiterated that these were not new, but i had reset them to factory defaults and included all parts that came with a new unit.

some dumb prole bought two of them for $800 and now wants a refund because, basically, they "looked new" to him in the pictures, and he admitted that he didn't bother to read the description.

i never have to deal with this kind of prole stupidity when i sell my more valuable/luxury items Jfc

I just remembered you're not a Product Manager. I can totally see why you'd need to maximize the value of every Device as much as possible due to your lack of income. I would expect a Product Manager to be magnanimous (and Liberal) and donate his disused hardware to the less fortunate tbh.

i'm definitely not going to give him a refund, but i have to go through the hassle of reporting him to eBay, needing to ask eBay to intervene in the return request, etc.

i guess this is making me realize i don't interact with True Proles that often. most of the things i've sold on eBay are "high-end" or luxury items that proles don't buy.

you're going to have to spend a lot more than $400 to automate a dildo with industrial-grade robots. industrial automation is ridiculously expensive. i found my tiny but very profitable niche within it.

you're going to need an industrial PLC (several hundred at least) and at least an industrial motor to which you can attach the dildo and create the repetitive thrusting motion. for more elaborate industrial dildo automation you're going to need a robot arm (four figures at least). don't forget to factor in the labor costs to install this and program the PLC.

I agree that a 5 axis articulated robot would be the bee's knees, but may I suggest a reciprocating actuator for your entry level model, instead of a motor? A motor would require a gearbox for speed reduction, then you'd have to convert the rotary motion to reciprocating motion, while a reciprocating actuator could achieve the same effect with less equipment. Plus, if the prime mover is a stepper or servo, you could really add some pizzazz with PLC controls.

If you're going through the trouble and expense of a PLC, it'd be a waste to use it as nothing more than glorified speed control potentiometer. A good touchscreen HMI would be ideal, especially if it's rated at IP65/NEMA 4X or better to protect your investment from ingress of all types of fluid. Then we could add mechanical or even electrodynamic vibratory exciters, maybe some mechanical oscillation, whatever we want.

good point on the actuator as it gets the job done in one unit rather than having to build things up from a simple motor. easy to attach the dildo to the actuator.

a touchscreen industrial HMI might be more convenient. regarding IPx/NEMA ratings, most industrial equipment is built to high ratings anyway, so not a concern with most equipment. but it could be that any lubricant applied to this industrial dildo could in fact also lubricate the automation equipment itself, thereby extending the life of the automated dildo rather than damaging it. really depends on the lube i suppose. my suspicion is water-based lube would dry things out, whereas something oil-based could extend the life of the actuator and reduce the amount of maintenance needed.

I've been a CRUD webdev slopmo for so long I forgot what technology is truly capable of. Some things really do change the world.

industrial automation is extremely different than CRUDcucking. industrial hardware needs to be built and tested very carefully before selling anything. a CRUDcuck can fix a bug in a few hours. an industrial automation bug can cost millions and take months to fix. the industry moves very slowly as a result. but at least you're working on useful things rather than CRUDslop.

at the end of the day, though, CRUDcuck jobs are much more plentiful than tech jobs in industrial automation. that's why i left the industry. now i know all this mostly useless arcane industrial tech. at least i found my eBay niche to still make money from it.

Every man needs a hobby and you seem to be uniquely qualified to make the better place by spearheading the world's first motorized recumbent bike dildo. I believe you can make a difference and we're all here to support the effort

actually, now that i think about it, i haven't done any real CRUD work in like four or so years. management knows CRUDcucks are disposable and replaceable, whereas i've mostly been working on modernizing or building backend features that aren't CRUD-based, but usually used downstream by the CRUDcucks. maybe this is better for my future in codecucking. but holy fuck i hate coding

also, wiring and communication protocol might matter. i'm leaning toward industrial Ethernet with the caps on the plugs. or maybe Profibus? M12 of course and not the old D-SUB. don't want the lube ending up in any ports. wireless is still too unreliable even at short distances. we have millions on the line here with all this industrial automation equipment. this isn't consumer WiFi.

actually, i forgot you can get M12 Ethernet, too. i've been out of the industry for too long.

Brother, I fucking love trading stuff. I just ignore most offers, since it's usually stuff that's worth about the same or less than what you're selling, but if you're patient you'll eventually have somebody make a crazy good trade offer.

For example, I used to buy police surplus Sigs and restore them, which basically means two tone Cerakote, new grips, and some bright enamel paint on the sights. My out the door cost would be about $500. I recently traded a P229 .40 for an AR pistol in 9mm and a S&W bodyguard .38 revolver. Another guy traded me a Kimber 1911 and a Beretta 92FS for one of my restored P229s. If you're not familiar with guns, both of those trades were worth $1k+

an uplifting update: i reported the buyer to eBay and had to ask eBay to intervene in the return request because this buyer is a fucking idiot who was violating eBay's "abusive buyer policy" to a tee. eBay ignored all the evidence and sided with the buyer, allowing for the return to proceed.
