I reoriented myself swiftly, using both my hands and feet to move, intending to face what/who had just hit me. I saw only a pair of shorts and a wife beater (my eyes were maybe two feet above ground level). It was November in the Pacific Northwest, not exactly warm weather. My attacker seemed crazy or desperate; I never was able to study his face. I leapt from my prostrate position! Seized a hold of him aggressively by his shoulders and neck. Pulled on him and rolled some punches. Got myself close to his center of gravity and threw him to the ground, or possibly I tripped him up surgically (I had been a decorated judo player).
Now I was in a half mount--it all happened blindingly fast. I went on to secure a full mount, but never havign been in a fight before, I did not press my advantage but sort of relaxed my grip around his neck. He writhed his way free from beneath me and we were now standing facing one another. he threw a few punches and I don't remember if I ate or evaded them. . .but I remember taking him to the ground for a second time. From above him, I threw a punch::he blocked it. Throwing and not landing that punch had created space between him and me. He took advantage of this by violently wriggling himself free from beneath me like he were a snake on a hotplate or a lobster dropped in boiling water--he went crazy to free himself that second time. So, we were standing once again and, once again, I took him to the ground (I had been a champion wrestler back in high school). So, I mounted him yet again. This time, I raised my fist above his face while he was looking up from a somewhat defensive position, but instead of crashing it down on him, I faked like I was gonna punch but I pulled/held my punch, and waited for a split second longer before crashing it down into his guard. It so happened fortunately that he decided it would be a good idea to begin peeking through his guard the very moment that I was slamming my fist down into the area near his face. From a deep crouch he was knocked backwards onto his ass. Two of his eleven or so friends nearby came running over to us--I think they did not expect me to give fight after beign sucker punched, and once I looked to be getting the better of their buddy, they figured they would run to his assistance. With their buddy on the ground, I jumped to my feet and turned to face his oncoming friends. When I made eye contact with them they went from running full bore towards me to completely stopping on their heels and trying to pull up their horses. They seemed to want nothing to do with me once they realized they would not be jumping me from behind. So, i said "Waht do you guys want? Cash?" I quickly shimmied out of my backpack which was stuffed with guacamole stained t-shirts but no money; threw the pack on the ground at their feet and realized their buddy was just now getting to his feet. I thought, "Crap, these guys are bout to go hyena on my ass. Damn! I wish I could have ripped that guy's head off his shoulders who sneaked me. 'You are one lucky mother fucker' I though about that guy, then I ran like the wind for two blocks to get myself out of harm's way. |
