"three weeks ago, a bro of mine had to cancel a vacation and work all week, including the weekend. then they canned him three days later."
What year was he, and why did they can him?
Holy fuck.

Leave. I remember thinking "man, I'm so excited to do Biglaw. All the haters are just jealous or couldn't hack it." Then I got there...
Biglaw really, seriously, fucking sucks. Just leave and do ANYTHING else. You get one shot at this ride, and I can guarantee you die a depressed soul if you work Biglaw your whole life. I shit you not, I would bet money that there is not a single Biglaw lawyer who doesn't honestly regret doing it as long as they did when they're on their death bed.

If your loans are gone, you don't need much more paper. But I'm also much riskier than the average pumo poaster.
Started my own firm leveraging connections from all parts of my life. It's relatively easy if you're a bit tech savvy (makes running an office much easier) and social (opens networks).
I get a lot of clients from friends who say "Hey, my buddy needs help with something, so I told him to call you." Literally zero work on my end, and I get to make $200 an hour doing work for these folks.

I agree that working on complex issues and attention to detail is important, but I think success with those things is largely innate or can be learned outside of Biglaw.
As for working with (or landing) big clients, it's all about building relationships, and, if anything, Biglaw makes that more difficult to the extent it turns you into some aspie prick who thinks the way biglawyers treat others is normal. Half of my pitch to clients is "I'm not like those pricks."
In my opinion, the only value Biglaw has is that it is the only semi-widely-available means to big money for a 25-y-o, inexperienced law grad with big debt. Accordingly, one's primary goal for Biglaw time should be to stack cash and pay off loans. Of course, one shouldn't turn a blind eye to learning opportunities, but there's not that much learning to be done in Biglaw.

Oh hai me from 1 month ago.
Eventually, you'll get through it and have a month stretch, like me now, where you can role in at 930 and head to the gym at 5:30. Then you'll think, "This isn't so bad."
Rinse, repeat.
