Iran played it's one card and they can't play it again. Alternative pipelines are sprouting up all over already. Remember the arabs hate the Shia more than they hate Jews even. Hormuz was their play, but it's a single shot with diminishing returns. The real target was Chinese reserves and in that regard it worked as planned. Plus we can't disregard the impacts of months of bombing. Iran is tough to kill, but they have huge massive problems moving forward. The country was poor as shit already. Now they're even further behind their rival neighbors.
Nobody really acknowledges it, but the US cut off a quarter of the world's oil exports and oh wow now we're the top exporting country. That tells the world where the power really is. Iran itself is rather meaningless (unless they actually go nuclear). We're doing pretty good without their oil. American companies are doing amazing and it flipped the switch on Venezuela. Right after we took control of their oil everyone said it wasn't economically practical to invest there. That changed overnight. That one is still baffling. The US really just took their oil.
Personally I have a bigger problem with the erosion of cultural norms in our society. |
