I will only say this once. This Saturday, May 23rd, gotnews.com published an article written by Chuck Johnson, conservative blogger and men’s rights activist, exposing me in my case against Paul Nungesser, Columbia’s infamous serial rapist. The article (http://gotnews.com/breaking-we-found-adam-of-the-columbia-…/) published my name after giving me until 7PM to publicly apologize to Paul for him having been found “Not Responsible” in my Gender Based Misconduct Case against him, and after demanding a public apology from me for having “falsely accused” him of sexual assault. This article is a deliberate attempt to frame me as a “lying nigger piece of shit,” (the choice epithets of one of Paul’s supporters, sent to me on twitter after the article was published), to silence me in my fight for safety and accountability on this campus, to discredit my case against Paul based on the committee’s unsurprising and nonetheless misguided verdict, and to ultimately start a crusade against me to threaten me into silence. This is why Chuck Johnson decided to include my personal photos, my complete social media profile, and details of my history of activism: to paint a portrait of me as militant and deranged, deserving of whatever harassment, abuse, and violence that may come my way.
I had convinced myself into believing what Paul had done to me was permissible, or potentially even harmless, but was convinced otherwise when Paul repeatedly retaliated against me in a lecture class in which we were both enrolled after Carry That Weight’s National Day of Action last October. After reporting the retaliation (which was dismissed by the investigative team in the Office of Gender Based Misconduct as “hyperbolic and illogical”) I struggled even further to believe that my experiences were real, that my rights to exist and feel safe on this campus were legitimate, or that I had done the right thing in coming forward with my experience. It came as no surprise to me when, on November 26th, 2014, a maintenance person working in the Cafe in Dodge came up to me from behind, cornered me against the wall, and raped me—somehow, I was convinced in that moment, I had brought this upon myself.
The ways in which Columbia University has failed survivors is obvious, and at this point redundant. The maintenance person who assaulted me was “dismissed” from the University that December for “reasons unrelated to [my] report,” and as a result, the investigation against him has been “suspended indefinitely.” Paul walked across the stage at Commencement last week, as did Emma with her mattress. I, however, have had to take part in my own class’s graduation from a distance, because I could not complete all of my classes.
People may think that now that Paul and Emma have graduated, that the war is over. This article from gotnews.com proves that in reality, it’s only just begun. No longer will I be coerced into silence, threatened into inaction, ignored by my university and my class. I will no longer be a victim. I am a survivor.
For my Visual Arts Senior Thesis I will use a meditative dance practice that harnesses kinetic energy within my body as an embodied metaphor for the evasion of structural and interpersonal violence, and as an incipient expression of black, trans/feminine and queer identity and resistance. As a literal expression of my right to both occupy and negotiate discursive and physical space both on campus and in the United States more broadly, the dance will center black, trans-feminine and queer experience within the national discourse surrounding sexual violence and racist brutality, and challenge the audience to redefine our collective understanding of anti-blackness and trans/femininity’s integral relationship to rape and mass incarceration.
I have tattooed a Black X over my left breast, which symbolizes the permanent mark left on my body after this assault and as a symbolic metaphor for the ways in which my identity is “targeted” by sexual predators and white supremacist institutions. Drawing from the current uprisings in Baltimore, Ferguson, and across the U.S to confront racist police violence, the work of Columbia Prison Divest’s organizing to end Columbia’s economic investment in the CCA and G4S, and radical black and brown trans/femmes across the globe, I am using dance as an individual form of protest that leverages my identity, body and experiences against those who wish to exploit and violate them: racist, colonizing institutions like Columbia, the Prison Industrial Complex in which its been invested, and serial rapists like Paul Nungesser.
For Black X: Negratude, I am going to dance my way to liberation. I am protesting the university’s refusal to protect black students, queer students, trans students, women and femmes from white supremacist capitalist patriarchy and sexual violence. I am going to dance, in videos and on stages, until I receive my diploma next May. I am carrying the torch: Emma carried her mattress across the stage at Commencement, and I will dance across the stage at mine. The Black X on my chest is the target—the challenge—to all of the men’s rights activists, racist liberals, pithy misogynists, transphobes and spineless bureaucrats, anyone who believes I am a “lying nigger piece of shit,” to not threaten or silence me, to not call me “crazy,” but to shoot me like the cowards you are if you do not believe in my right to live, learn, heal, and exist. It is not only within Columbia’s, but our collective hands to decide when the violence will end. For now, I will dance. I will protest. I will fight. And I WILL win. My name is Marc Jeremy, I’m a black trans/femme, and this is Negratude.

jfc. this gets you a degree from columbia?
how do i know that this is even choreographed and not him just "freaking" or whatever they call it?
also, maybe i'm crazy, but he seems like a pretty big dude...hard to believe that some random maintenance worker cornered/raped him.

This made me laugh out loud. What the fuck do these people think schools do:
"Paul walked across the stage at Commencement last week, as did Emma with her mattress. I, however, have had to take part in my own class’s graduation from a distance, because I could not complete all of my classes."

can someone provide cliffs? first ¶ indicates some conservative blogger i've never heard of said nasty, possibly racist, probably unnecessary shit about some below the line cast member of the mattress girl drama that i've also never heard of.
is someone actually accused of rape? like swore out a complaint or skipped all that but let's post it on twitter?
