::rails against youth entitlement::

::went to college when school was 2-3k per year and could be paid for with summer job money::

::went to law school under the same circumstances::

::to the extent college became a joke, set the boomer policies that made it so (participation ribbons for all; everyone should go to college; no dumb questions/people; bitchtits soft majors espousing one group or the other is oppressed; emphasized feeling over counting/discovering/observing)::

::worked many fewer hours than youngs as technology has made most high paying jobs (all professional service jobs, most middle management and higher industry jobs) 24/7/365 efforts::

::grew up and worked in one of the greatest periods of growth and prosperity one country has ever experienced in the history of the world::

::still didn't save enough for retirement::

::instead bought a used Porsche Boxter and shitty vacation house in Florida which is now 300k underwater::

::passes healthcare law that has effect of youth subsidizing olds (pre-medicare age olds) health insurance::

::refused to subsidize their parent's health insurance in the manner they're demanding of their kids (healthcare debates of 86 and 93)::

::refuses any and all changes to social security and medicare::

::refuses any tax scheme that would pay for same (even with help from youngs)::

::demands younger generations pay for all + interest -- all while knowing younger generation won't get their levels of benefits, if they get anything.::

::Intentionally drives economy off cliff because assume only people that will still be around when it hits the hard rock bottom are kids and grandkids ::

::refused to ever fucking grow up (see, e.g., all the ads aimed at boomers, often for ED medication, portraying 50+ year old boomers in rock bands, surfing, and rock climbing; the many offices around the country where the greatest generation and the under 40 workers wear suits and the boomers wear rumpled polos and khakis in order to stick it to the man).::

::refused or were incapable of raising kids because they were overgrown children themelves (with a totally cool corvette!)::

::to the extent kids were raised, they were raised to be trophies for the boomer's happiness/contentment/bragging. Another way to oneup Tim Jones next door::

::are on pace to die penniless; they had the greatest wealth of any american generation and are projected to pass on the least to their kids and heirs::

::calls younger kids lazy and entitled::

Fuck boomers

They also know we're a generation of docile sheep that genuflect to authority -- so if they tell us it is our fault most will believe.

Another instance of boomers wanting to have their cake and eat it. They want to use up every resource and die just before we hit the rocks on the bottom of the cliff. But they don't want to be remembered as locusts.

No entrepreneurial spirit in this generation. Some people want to do the tech startup thing, but that always fails. Nobody wants to run a tire distributorship in Indiana and make 1m/year.

This is the disconnect dem Boomer bloggers have. Most of their complaints about Millenials (lazy, entitled, spoiled) would eventually be traced back to bad parenting. But our parents were...the Boomers. So then whose fault is it?

you think the average, politically apathetic 22 year old who never reads the news but can name every character on the Jersey Shore knows about all of this? we still have tons of idiots going to fourth tier law schools thinking it's their golden ticket.

nah, a lot of people are lazy, too. but i blame the boomers' awful parenting for that.

you're talking about the underclass, which has always been around. that hasn't changed from generation to generation, though their fixations have.

boomers knocked out a lot of traditional pathways to prosperity and out of check-cashing debt servitude that poors used to have, like starting at a low-wage job and "working your way up."

that's much tougher now, because those jobs are occupied by illegals, and credentialism means that boomer bosses won't take you seriously if you don't have multiple degrees. which of course takes debt...

my theory is that the Boomers truly do not comprehend how their shitty influence on society and culture has created what they bemoan in the younger generations.

i mean, wtf does it mean to castigate a "generation" of people? each generation is molded and shaped by the world they encounter. do we believe the "greatest generation" was somehow virtuous by right of birth, but millenials are intrisically lacking?

in the same way that the world made Boomers narcissistic douchebags, it made millenials ... whatever they are (not fully human, cautious, "entitled", etc., i think).

true, true. that's what i should have said.

when i look in the eyes of boomers who have a beef with younger people, i see that they sincerely believe what they are saying, and that they believe they have done good in the world.

i guess this is our version of the "generation gap." there is a communication breakdown and the generations are talking hopelessly at cross purposes. likewise, we have and will continue to have blind-spots of our own.

Yes, it's both infuriating and tragic that Boomers were handed an incredibly wealthy nation and proceeded to convert that into personal gain mostly through tax revolts (raising the cost of education and neglecting the infrastucture) and dismantling the manufacturing base to pump up share prices, but I think any generational cohort would have done the same. What makes Boomers despicable is that they deny responsibility for this and instead crow about shit like the civil rights movement (the major gains of which most were too young to contribute to in a meaningful way) or the music (which they listened to, but again most "Boomer" must was created by non-Boomers) when they reflect on themselves as a generation.
