The town is so freakishly expensive to live in and to commute around, it really depends on where you're working and where the bus lines run. |

Also, I found that subway travel, even with the oyster, is too much for daily commutes. Buses are almost as fast and much cheaper. |

it takes 20 minutes from angel to london bridge on the tube in the morning. the same trip takes 1 hour on the bus in the morning hours (and i don't even go at high peak, because i don't have to be in until 9:30). |

if you want to live alone, 375/week is the bare min you need to spend to get something "nice" by american standards. otherwise, prepare to live in a closet with no storage space, probably on the lower ground floor or in a converted public housing block. |

i'm a grad student, and i'll be fairly busy while i'm there, so i don't need to be right in the middle of things, but i at least want to be within a reasonable walk of stuff to do (places to drink alone). i'm getting 100 pounds a day plus some sort of housing stipend. don't know the details. i could handle a studio. i'd rather not have a roommate.
