Many get lured by the material spoils of Globohomo, but it's a hollow prize - man does not live on bread alone, as we all should have learned by now.
Walt Disney's It's a Small World After All summed it up best, I think:
Homogeneous nations peacefully trading and sharing cultural ideas, tourism, foreign exchange students, etc.
In God's eyes, individual people and nations alike are like unique flowers which delight Him, and of course can only bloom to their full potential in the right cultural and/or geographic environment.
Tolkien and C.S. Lewis both believed that there is an eternal England in Heaven, an eternal America, China, Japan et al. where all the unique national stories will reach their perfect fulfillment and completion, following the benevolent Light unto the nations:
