You mean the Blackjack Tu-160 or the "White Swan" in Russian nomenclature. 32 built. 16 in service and the rest in reserve as a spare parts supply. Assembly line remains so if there is a need they can resume production but the Kuznetsov engines are a bitch and its too expensive to operate in larger numbers. It too is being upgraded . Its in not way technically inferior to the B-1B that you have in service. Its the equivalent of the much more ambitious B-1A withdrawn from Yankee service. |
