Matt Walsh: The Odyssey was woke garbage. The Northman was amazing.

Just saw The Odyssey. Despite what you may have heard, literally all of the criticisms by conservatives were entirely correct. The movie is just as woke as you fear, if not more so. The DEI casting is atrocious. Completely takes you out of the story right from the beginning. But even worse than that is Nolan’s decision to turn Odysseus into an anachronistic whiney, solemn shell of a man plagued by “trauma” and guilt. It’s impossible to overlook these flaws because the film itself is not terribly entertaining or well constructed. For the most part it is disjointed, dull, self-serious, disenchanted, somehow feeling both verbose and overly rushed at the same time. The dialogue is some of the worst I’ve ever heard in a “critically acclaimed” film. “On the nose” and “clunky” are descriptions that can’t even begin to describe this script. At no point in the story does Nolan ever transport the audience to the ancient world. You never feel like you’re 3,000 years in the past. You feel like you’re watching modern Americans put on a pageant, because you are. Nobody would be calling this thing a masterpiece if it was made by a director not named Christopher Nolan.

If you want an epic that actually gets into the mind of an ancient warrior and transports you to their time and place, watch The Northman. That was a masterpiece. This is not.

Matt Walsh is Ben Shapiro’s nigger imo; spiritually housebroken, institutionally fed, contractually neutered, a great hulking moral scold who spends all day barking about courage and truth and decadence and men becoming women and civilization collapsing, then the second the truth wanders onto Daily Wire property he drops to all fours, rolls over, shows his belly, and waits for management to tell him which principles are still authorized for broadcast. He is a branded slave with his own show. when the company’s honor is questioned, when one of the owners is embarrassed, there comes Matt Walsh at full speed, chains rattling, beard blowing in the wind, ready to explain why submission is actually principle and why the people noticing it are the real cowards. Ben does not need to order him around because the slave has learned the schedule.
Exhibit A: Crowder said conservative media had become dependent on Big Tech and passed the punishment down through contracts, which is exactly the kind of thing Walsh would call spiritual corruption if a university, newspaper, church, school board, corporation, or random lesbian librarian did it, but Jeremy Boreing was involved, so suddenly Matt became the company slave explaining overhead, margins, risk allocation, friendship, betrayal, and the terrible moral crime of embarrassing the people who sign his checks, the culture warrior turning into a payroll clerk before your eyes, the fearless Christian patriarch waddling out of the servants’ quarters with a clipboard.
Candace Owens gets pushed out after fighting with Ben over Israel and Walsh, who normally believes silence is complicity, becomes very interested in silence, very mature silence, very nuanced silence, silence with good benefits and a 401(k), because this man can smell cowardice across the country but cannot detect it when it is sitting in his own chair wearing his own beard.
Then he says he does not care about Israel, which is slave language disguised as rebellion, because America funds it, his company fights over it, Ben Shapiro practically levitates when discussing it, and Matt’s brave position is that he personally finds the subject uninteresting, as though the whole issue were a cricket match playing on a television in an airport bar, the perfect sentence for a slave who wants the audience to think he escaped while remaining close enough to the house for dinner.

I read it was well done and entertaining the entire time from classical history profs reviews, and the woke stuff is apparently like 7 minutes in a 3 hour film.
I'll have to see it myself, but the problem with hyper political commentators on issues of film or books or art is they don't have any special insight there and everything is shaded by whatever clicks they can get by duobling down on their shtick. Would not be surprised if it was a great film and walsh is being a faggot.

In “Apocalypto,” Mel Gibson transports you into the mind of a Mayan 500 years ago. In “The Northman,” Robert Eggers transports you into the mind of a Viking a thousand years ago. In “The Odyssey,” Christopher Nolan transports you into the mind of a liberal woman in 2017.
