but this is what i was talking about with the second half of my OP -- this type of fight club/office space/the wire anxiety about a declining country was common back then. and the only reason i think we don't see it now is because we've lost hope. all of these works had a hopeful ending. chase is on record saying the final episode is supposed to be hopeful. that's what "don't stop believing" is all about. despite the tragedy and uncertainty that surrounds us all, we should remain hopeful. the reason shit like this doesn't get made any more is that the idea of being hopeful for a collective brighter future seems ridiculous now. |

We waited for years, there was concerns about Edie Falco and others moving on to other projects, and then they came back with these half seasons that people had never heard of before. It prevented them from taking other jobs. But they didn't complain because JG was a god. Supposedly he used his clout to make sure they all got huge raises for the finale season.
