I'm old enough now and with enough life experience to understand that I am a piece of shit, and need to focus on the needs of others and less on my own needs to make my life meaningful.
I've started going to church again as sort of a Pascal's Wager, although I do believe in God. Even if he doesn't exist (it's a he), there is no purpose in life without looking upward and outward.

yes, i dont love jesus. i think its a mistake to mytholigize a perfect person. there isnt one. the flow of whats important is unknown to us in its entirety, and as we think of some people who we think are better than others in this or in that, and extend that to a perfect human being, we err in that the mystery of life is that the diversity of human spirit is important and no perfection is real in the sense of what is truly important. in this sense, we are all gods children and he loves us all equally. i do not believe in jesus as the savior of mankind. i think the savior of mankind is mankind itself, and its frustrating to think that as we see all the mistakes and horrible things people do and how miserable humanity is. creator is in us and knows the way, and the way is love. it is the only cure to the ills of man. there is no intermediary between the creator of the world and his children. we just arent confident enough to love all of humanity, as we are not comfortable loving others through our weakness. we invented jesus so that we could say we love a person, as he is perfect. and through him we can love all mankind. we do not want to love an imperfect person with all our might. and that is the mistake. you do not have to love all mankind, that is an abstraction and not how the spirit works. when you love someone, you in fact participate in the love of all mankind and the entire world and yourself and all that is real and special. loving someone purely, someone imperfect, is the real deal, not loving some jesus stand-in for the perfect specimen. jesus isnt the son of god, we are the sons and daughters of god.

your rational brain concludes that the bad stuff is real, it is unable to truly comprehend the good stuff, which is the eternal spirit of the flame of life, aka celestial love, and love of mankind. it is outside of the realm of reason, as reason is only a tool of mankind, to which we have surrendered ourselves as to as if it was a master once we saw that it can bring many gifts to us, all the while forgetting that mankind and the world is a creation of spirit and love, and reason is just a substrate of that. in us is the world, and all material things created by reason amount to nothing compared to the world that was breathed into by the spirit of gods love.

i have experienced some affection for some people, albeit on drugs, and it changed my point of view. i dont believe in an everlasting life. i think we die, but it was always going to be so, and i dont think that negates the goodness in life. once you are born and alive, you cannot turn your back on life. but is death real and inevitable, with no eternal rewards afterwards? i think thats the reality, but you cant take that and negate the good that is in life. its eternal and everlasting (not time wise in this time dimension, but in another, spiritual realm way) and is more powerful than the end of ones life. logically that shouldnt make sense, but where the power of love resides is that it overcomes such logic through conviction of the whole mind, body and spirit, which is greater than mere powers of reason that work in the material realm only.

i have realized there is truly something special and beautiful about life and humanity especially. i somehow forgot that feeling, i used to feel it as a child im sure. i let my hurt and my reason overpower my spirit. i got caught up in thinking of only the material realm, which is what call science and reason and capitalism is about. nature and the world is not only material but is spiritual as well, i believe now. i think any religion is something that is trying to get at that or to remind us that there is a bigger, the more important part of life, that is not seen with the eyes or heard with the ears, but is sensed by the spirit, and that is where love dwells, the very force of creation of the world and nature. if i felt some love, and felt it was the force of all creation, that was kind of comforting to know. it means there is something behind all this that is good and right, this isnt just some random walk in a random place with no meaning.

(arminian) evangelical here. very active at my church. highly theologically literate. pretty pietistic too (eg i lost my virginity on wedding night)
the near-complete and total absence of "my people" from law has been pretty interesting, still havent quite developed a theory on it beyond Prole Theory. only lawyers i know that practice their faith at all are either catholics or jews. pretty sure thats largely reflected on xo as well
