does it mean that the firm interviews lots of people?
otherwise why didn't they schedule an interview to be held next week?

When I was interviewing to lateral to another firm, I had some interviews scheduled that far out. The people would tell me that they had to schedule them that far out because a particular partner (hiring partner or head of department) wanted to meet with me. So, it was more about that partner's schedule than anything else.
If they are bringing you in, then they are interested. They wouldn't do it just for fun.
