in are country? less paycheck to paycheck, can save a bit for kids college, stuff away a bit more for retirement, take a few regional vacations. it's harder than it used to be (60k now isn't what it was 15 years ago) but still doable
you have to consider that people making this are a) always buying cheap used import cars with around 70k miles that are easy to fix, b) never ever considering private schools (hell, getting into an ivy would be the best thing--they wouldn't pay a dime), c) spending SIGNIFICANTLY less than most xoers do on takeout and going out to eat. if proles eat out it's usually fast food, maybe go to a restaurant once every couple weeks.
you're taking home about 45k on 60k married with kids, and a 170k mortgage is probably about 1200/mo. it's more than doable to actually own a home on this salary in are country and build a little equity. obviously expensive metros are different, where you rent paycheck to paycheck and just have to save what you can. |

Don't eat out much. Simple vacations. My kids are all small, 7 and under. I'd like to pay for catholic school but I don't think we qualify for any tuition assistance. That's probably my only regret. Another year for pslf.
