I had a few classes with him and talked to him a few times but not a ton. He was pretty quiet. Yes, he is good looking.
Lots of HBS students don't have much interest in working at Paulson. They hire a lot of JD/MBAs from Harvard. (I was a JD/MBA but didn't work in/have any interest in finance).
Regardless, like a lot of people at HBS (and HLS), this guy was just an aspie who looked good on paper.

"A lot of those people?"
Bullshit.
I'd wager that very few of the entering class worked in PE/HF making 400+K.
The average starting salary, pre-HBS, is like 70-80k, and post HBS is like 125K.

I was at HBS in the latter years of the past decade, which was admittedly boom times. There were definitely people who were coming from PE/HF, though I don't think many of them were making $400k+ - probably closer to $200-300k, and even that might be high. Nonetheless, that was definitely a very small portion of the incoming class.
Many people were coming from consulting (and that doesn't necessarily mean MBB - TONS of strugglers from LEK, Monitor, etc.), lots of people from random non-brand name companies, lots of internationals obviously, and then a decent number of people from TFA, BIGNONPROFITS, social ventures, etc.
I'd say $75k average is probably right for incoming salaries, as is $125k post HBS salaries.

right. it's definitely not a big portion of the overall class but not totally negligible either.
HBS is obviously great, but i do think xo overestimates the difficulty of admissions and caliber of students. i was '08 at harvard ug, and i know a lot of dumbass kids from my econ classes who will be at HBS this fall. definitely some superstars as well, but on a per capita basis, the student body is not as impressive as yale law, harvard med, some phd programs, and even harvard law.

This is absolutely correct. I don't know why people think HBS is super hard to get into - there were plenty of dumb fucks there, and plenty of people who had what seemed to me like pretty mediocre work experience.
HLS is harder to get into and the students were definitely smarter. Since HLS takes a lot of straight-through kids, they obviously don't have the impressive work experience that many HBS kids do, but I came away, on the whole, more impressed with my HLS classmates.
Overall, I just think the "grass is greener" attitude toward b school here is funny. I had a good number of classmates at HBS who really would have liked to have a guaranteed $160k job at graduation, easier in-roads to government work, etc.

totally different degrees. the princeton mfin students are definitely smarter, and their job placement is very strong. even in bad years, it's 100% placement, at top banks, hedge funds, and prop trading shops.
2 of my good friends is starting at princeton mfin this year. one was summa at harvard in applied math and worked in exotic derivatives trading at a BB, another was summa from MIT in computer science, and he worked at a top quant hedge fund as a programmer/quant researcher.

I'm confused. What's alpha about this? TKD? I get it, Korean heritage and all that, but of the fighting arts...it's pretty much the easiest.
So I don't see it. He's smart and has had good jobs.
XO is so strange and not marked to IRL at all...just laffable.
