1. Track their students. Less of the "everyone should go to college" mentality.
2. Football/soccer and rugby.

the ONS statistics for homicide are not based on community surveys. that's a separate report.
look, if you want to get into individual numbers, the london met puts murders online:
http://www.met.police.uk/crimefigures/
there have been 107 in the 12 months from april 2012 to april 2013. there are lists, and you can cross-reference the names of victims with newspaper reports.
had you looked at the list from a few years ago, it would have had closer to 150 names than 107. and that's out of a total of 545 murders in england and wales, so you can see how london becoming safer brings down the rate by itself.
now, though, if you can find a discrepancy between reports of murder victims and the met list, that WOULD be something interesting. like if you can find a news story about a couple dudes getting stabbed to death in peckham back in august but can't find them anywhere on the met list, that would be a weird discrepancy.
but that does not appear to be happening.

l-o-fucking-l at education.
I used to think British accents were cool. Some are, but after living there for a year and a half, a lot of British accents are awful. AWFUL.

My dad went to Harvard. He also spent about six years living in Oxford after university, and he said it was a complete shock how much more knowledgeable the elite there were compared to ours.
I didn't go to Harvard, but have friends at both Oxbridge and the Trinity. On average, the Oxbridge ones are smarter.
This may only apply to elite education. Since the British dismantled the grammar schools, their education standards may have fallen. I don't know, these are just my impressions.

Anecdotes aren't useless. This is a typically glib commandment that comes out of your Yankee ass like it's a divine commandment. Observations are the first step to any thoughtful inquiry, because if your data doesn't square up with your observations, you still need to account for the discrepancy. I've observed that your average Oxbridge is more articulate and knowledgeable than their American counterpart. Now you can try to refute that impression, or explain why it doesn't matter, or tackle it in any number of ways, but avoiding it entirely is just boring.
You can manipulate statistics to draw any conclusion you like, and many of the most valuable aspects of an education aren't conducive to simple measurement.
But your categories are laughable, because they're subjective preferences disguised as objective criteria. Quality of students? By what measure? Faculty? That's a collection of people, not a measurement. What about the faculty are you trying to measure? Research? Again, an activity, not a measurement.
American universities are richer. No one disputes that. Are they better? Well, that's a different question.

It's meaningless. It's statistically insignificant. It means nothing, as you haven't spent time around a statistically relevant number of people to be able offer anything that sheds any light on the quality of students.
The second paragraph is similarly worthless. What aspects of education do you think are not conducive to measurement? What do you think is a more effective way of comparing the universities? What criteria do you think demonstrates your opinion that British universities are 'better'? "Welp, my dad said they're smarter!!!"
Its asinine that you call my categories 'laughable' after offering nothing but worthless anecdotes. These are the categories that people use to rank Universities. Research, citations, selectivity, admissions to elite grad programs, etc.
At the end of the day, the American universities *are* better because they're richer (especially when they are so much richer, like the elite American universities are). There is even a stark difference between, say, Harvard and Yale. They've got so much more money that they can just do things other Universities can't.

I wasn't offering my impressions as scientific fact, which is why your petulant overreaction is so comical. I was opening the discussion, not closing it.
I merely disputed the idea that anecdotes are worthless. They're not. Reality, or one's impression of it, is always the best basis for inquiry.
But you *are* claiming analytical rigor, and that's what is laughable. You cite categories that assume their conclusion. "American universities are better at producing American university products, like 'research' and 'faculty'." Well, no shit. This gets us nowhere in the discussion. You're ignoring that Oxbridge and Harvard-Yale exist for different purposes. Oxbridge prides itself on the tutorial method. For them, a university is a place chiefly for teaching. Research is significant, but less important. So while American universities hold large lecture courses, Oxbridge focuses on one-on-one tutoring. British students are also required to specialize from their first year. There's more time for independent study, because you spend less of it in class.
So it's pointless to argue about which educational system is better by objective measures until we decide what our educational goals are.

Even among Black comics that touch on race (admittedly most of them), the best are subtler than that. Historically, there are very few, if any, Brit comics who are on the same level as Cosby, Pryor, and Rock. When you expand it to White Americans from past and present like Bruce, Carlin, Dangerfield, Martin, Kinison, Hicks, Louis C.K., Burr, et al., I think the Brits are overwhelmed on sheer numbers.

Average British dude is also more stylish and better looking than his American counterpart.
This is reversed for women to a certain extent.
