No response yet. I think non-OCI schools will find out this week one way or the other.

Even if you get an invite, it's just Round 1. About a 10% chance of passing all three, tops.

I googled it after and I guess you are supposed to say because rectangular ones could fall in the hole or that round ones are easier to move - rolling.

I was totally caught off-guard and said that the circle is a symbol of life and that prior to sewers people died from unsanitary conditions, so that's why they are circular. *blank stare*

in these things, how bad is it if you're totally off on the numbers? Like say they ask how much laundry detergent is used on a given Saturday in the US, and you assume that 75% of people do their laundry on Saturday. Would the interviewer say, "sorry, it's only 40%. ding!" even if the rest of your reasoning was sound? Or is it how close you are to the correct answer that matters?

for a question like that, it's the process and not the exact numbers that matter. only if you were like "well clearly everyone does their laundry on sunday so assume 100%" or "well i only know three people who do that so assume it's 3" would the actual numbers matter.

how many gas stations are there in Manhattan?

how many ping pong balls are needed to fill a 747?

they don't care so much for the final answer as a reasonable mathematical/logical process for getting to it. eg, if it take 1 million ping pong balls and you happen to guess 1 million, ding. if you say, well a ping pong ball is X size and there are Y things of X size in the plane, yada yada yada 500k, that's a better answer

To be fair, halfway around the circle is (2)(r)(3.14)(.5) which is a little bit more than 3x the distance the duck must travel. Since fox is only 3x faster, the fox loses.

To be fair, better question.

You go to the beach at 50 mph on Friday and come Sunday while traveling at 60mph. You take the same route. The distance each way is 150 miles. What was your average speed?

standard SAT math problem

50*(150/50)/(150/50+150/60)+60*(150/60)/(150/50+150/60)

or something like that.

same distance each way, so the 150miles doesn't even enter into the equation.

the middle number between 50 and 60 should be the correct answer, unless I'm missing something?

it would have been more complicated with different routes that were different distances.

yeah, man but you're an A+ speller.

55 is the suckers's answer. average speed equals distance divided by time. think about that. you drove 300 miles round trip and it took you 5.5 hours (150 / 50 plus 150 / 60)
