If you don't get enough rest and manage stress, you're going to fail to reap the benefits of exercise, particularly as you age. Combine poor sleep and stress with a poor diet and there no amount of exercise that will insulate you from heart disease and any number of other debilitating conditions.

Most of you eat LOL worthy diets. Eating a 'sammich' loaded with heavily processed frankenmeat 'deli slices' and Sargento cheese is not eating clean or healthy. The wilted lettuce in your chipotle burrito is not one serving of 'veggies.' I'm describing this because everyone is in denial about their eating in this country -- look around, people are fucking fat. Many of you reading this are 20+ lbs overweight.

Nothing has a greater cumulative impact on how you look, feel, and your longevity than diet. Start taking it seriously if you don't. Highly processed food is poison and should be regarded as carrying the same health consequences as alcohol. The average American would probably drop 15-20 lbs. in a few months if they could put down processed food for the whole period.

And please don't think that lifting + cheap ground beef is the fountain of youth. Best case scenario for that approach is you look like a shaved, inflamed ape like Rogan. Your diet needs to be 80%+ whole foods with a heavy emphasis on minimally processed vegetables if you want optimal health. Very few people are genetically predisposed not to benefit from this.

If you are not accustomed to eating a lot vegetables, just start roasting different types on a sheet pan after a light toss in some olive oil. Find what you like and start making it a staple. It's really easy to quickly wilts some greens in a pan with oil, lemon, and salt. Everyone should be getting some kind of fresh cruciferous vegetable every day at minimum.

I agree with this. But avoiding a high degree of processing is almost always beneficial and a good start for anyone looking to get their diet corrected. What heavily processed foods tend to very healthy? The point is also that minimizing processing is going to create a much, much better nutrient and fiber profile for the average person while minimizing uselessly added calories, sugar, sodium, etc.

It's absurdly easy to consume 2000+ calories of heavily processed food in a single sitting and find yourself hungry again in a few hours. It's brutal to take in that many calories with whole foods and often between fiber and superior nutrient profiles, you are not hungry again for substantially longer. Simply eating more fiber and less food overall would be a massive benefit to the average person.

Three cups of steamed kale is like 15g of protein. I ate that yesterday with some sardines and almonds and was at like 40g of protein for the meal. I think I average around 120g-140g if I am not emphasizing protein. I shoot for 40ish per meal but eat more as needed. I eat a lot of beans, tons of greens, decent amount of seafood several times per week, nuts, and whole fat dairy including yogurt, farmer's cheese, etc, and about a dozen eggs weekly. I also eat some whole grains daily which fall into 'processed' but minimally so and those are high in protein. I eat a full portion of meat probably 2-3 weekly but often go stretches without it. Virtually none of that is from fast food or 'prepared' meals. We cook at home 5-6 nights a week, ideally more.

I don't know too much about them but probably better than many things if used reasonably with an otherwise good diet. I realize some or all of them may fall into the highly processed foods category depending on definition.

But there is opportunity cost in eating less whole vegetables and fruits and nuts etc. The nutrient and fiber content of just eating whole plants is hard to beat for health benefits but that's obviously controversial here so I'll say no more. Unlikely the meal replacements are going to drive heart disease harder than the diet I recommend but again, I don't know anything about them.
