i was obsessed with harry potter as a kid. dressed up as hermione multiple times for halloween. not sure if i'd let my kids read the books. i started reading them in like first or second grade and they helped turn me into a voracious reader which i think was great for me in the long run. not sure how comfortable i am with the sorcery in the books though.

Harry Potter was great. I remember picking up the 4th book the day it came out and reading it on my way to play in the state Little League All Star Game.

JK Rowling should have just let her characters be rather than shoehorning contemporary virtue ethics into a child’s story whose primary appeal was an escape for readers from reality.
