That's a broad statement about jokes. Do you have no sense of decency? Would you make a joke about how Tillman should have taken that contract at his funeral?
Anyway, at the very least, some things shouldn't be joked about at certain times and places. Like, you shouldn't spit on the dead, 5 minutes after you learn that they made the ultimate sacrifice for you.
And, if you're going to make an inappropriate joke, it sure as hell better be funny, which this wasn't, objectively. |

WTF are you talking about? The Holocaust was a very personal disaster for millions of people - the increase in scale does not make it less personal. Certainly distance from tragedy factors in - wounds heal - but it should be obvious that if one can joke about genocide one can joke about ANYTHING.

We can try to put one in there for euphonius that his was simply an attempt at absurdity gone completely awry, but this "line" that we tiptoe on this board and, as of yet, rarely have ever crossed, is an exceedingly heavy one. That comment was no where near the funny side of that line due to a number of circumstances (the selflessness of Tillman's death, the timing, etc.- all already mentioned), and it is hard to tell, if ever, when, where or how a joke like this will ever be "funny"(read: absurd).
eu-fo is either remarkably stupid, remarkably unfunny or remarkably cruel for crossing that line, and those of you defending him just as confused. |
