I have 5 kids but I was lucky and locked my well above average wife in 2008 senior year of college. I’m friends with a 33 year old chick at work who constantly hits me up about advice involving some new guy who just wants casual and not commitment. Then she shows me picture and he’s some 6’5 guy that looks like a male model and she waves her phone around like a trophy.

I try to explain to her you really didn’t “get him” if he’s banging 10 other chicks and doesn’t want to settle down with you. She looked at me with a blank stare and starts talking about how her other birdbrain friends are jealous when they see her with him. Not a good recipe for kids.

the problem is the "nobody matters besides my family" mentality which has replaced religion. there used to be God above family and the green bay packers which tied everyone together. the reality is that parents don't have more "skin in the game" in a broader cultural sense, they just care about their children specifically. if only parents matter, what you are really saying is that "only the people you are related to by blood" matter, which is the foundation for a crumbling feuding shitfest of a society

it's good to have kids, it's good to have that change in perspective that having kids enables, but breeding politics are and always are at the bottom line of most of what occurs in the economic field wrt political debates, this is all "baked in" to what's going on. much of the left and a good deal of the younger right are all saying "we can't afford it" (and it's not a lie, it's not selfishness; economically, it is impossible. it's also de facto illegal to politick for the policies that would make it possible.) and the counterargument from the moralists outside of that so far has been something like the "more? that's what more means" debate in that jim henson sitcom. there've also been so many "fuck you, i've got mine" moments from the establishment in recent decades that the "you're hurting the national superstructure" arguments coming from the same people have none of the moral authority that the same in different eras might have had, and probably taken for granted.

there's a non-zero chance that "AI" is going to put whole swathes of the economy out of a job soon for the benefit of ultra-liberal finance cabals at the expense of everyone else, the state is not only not protecting citizens from this but not even *discussing* it in these terms publicly, and yet they expect us to sire more mouths to feed at cost? what? lol what? minimum wage is 13$. a two bedroom apartment or similar *rents* at ~$2,100. add in the costs of owning and maintaining a vehicle (there is no real public transit), auto insurance, grocery bills, god forbid---health insurance---, and put all of this over the backdrop of a stagnant on-the-ground economic situation (even though the jewish numbers on the DJIA are reaching new heights all the time) and it's a complete non-starter.
