here be the logic: a friend of mine who just finished first year at the med school at my college (in the top 20 but not top of the top...it's not harvard basically...) was talking about how you still have to build an impressive resume to get a "lifestyle" specialty. Whereas if you go to any t14 law school you have a good chance at BL if you just rock the exams.

T6 law school. unless i completely fuck up, i'm making $150K+ for years before i even turn 30. even if i get chased out of biglaw fast, i take midlaw or a corporate job and work easier hours for plenty of money.

doctors don't start making real money until well into their 30s, and if they want to get set up for later, they'll work just as hard as biglaw drones, if not harder. they have twice as much debt and their school is 10X as hard. law school is a joke and three year vacation - i work hard three weeks out of the semester, stay drunk and travel the rest of the time. and in the near future, MDs are going to get obama-pwned and their salaries will scale down.

by 40 i'll be working around 45 hours a week in second tier law somewhere, and i will have been making good money for 15 years. at 40, doctors will still be working brute hours, only 6-7 years out of residency (usually) and still paying down debt.

i couldn't give less of a fuck about lay prestige - the docs can have that. i'll also sit in a comfortable office and dick around on the internet all day. 90% of doctors are working in shitty hospitals or private practices where they're on their feet a lot and dealing with sick and disgusting people.

The question was about T14, not T6. Even then, law career involves much more risk. If you strike out at OCI or get laid off, there is no way you ever get BL. In this case it's also unlikely you will get midlaw or any good inhouse gig. There are CLS and NYU grads - biglaw dropouts doing doc review for years. Doctors on the other hand, even the ones who went to some 4th tier school, are virtually guaranteed good jobs.

It comes down to personal choice in the end. I would hate all science classes and dealing with sick people - and no degree of job security would convince me to become a doctor.

this is dumb. T6 grads working doc review or unemployed are outnumbered by people with the jobs they want 20-1. that's not much risk. for the rest of the T14 it's a mixed bag, but unless you're an idiot, then you can pull market somewhere, especially if you don't care about prestige.

doctors who go to shitty schools are guaranteed a minimum salary in the low 100K region if they consistently practice medicine, but it's not like they have any kind of great life. killing yourself in med school for seven years and all of your 20s/early 30s isn't worth the simple guarantee that you'll make at least 115K. only the money-coveting basement folk on XO think this way.

dumb, and even then it will be less so for a few years, but you go ahead and round up as many columbia and chicago grads who literally can't find any job or are temping as you can and get back to me. if you go to a T6 and you can't get a decent job, it's not because of the market or your school - it's you, and you'd fail at anything you tried.

if you have a T6 degree and you can't land some kind of biglaw, it's because you're a retard or nobody would hire you for any kind of professional position. the same person who can't get biglaw from a T6 is not going to be able to make it through med school either. and i'm not counting people who got lathamed and otherwise fucked - in normal circumstances, they got biglaw, then got unreasonably fucked. that's different. anyway your tacit med trolling is now apparent, so have at it.

there's no 'logical reasoning' here dipshit, just pointing out that coming back at his stupid post with an equally stupid one doesn't say much. if anything, he does have a point since there probably are more lawyers making ridiculously high salaries, even though it's still so few comparatively that it barely matters as a consideration. and a lot of TTT lawyers nail huge lawsuits and make millions, where as few doctors have this kin of opportunity unless they invent something or get bought out from a really successful private practice.

irrelevant =/= wrong, dipshit. your correction was functionally meaningless. yeah, there are some elite auto mechanics that make like 250K a year, but nobody says "hey mechanics can make a quarter mill a year!" as any kind of realistic assertion about professional prospect. you didn't cite where normal surgeons top out - you cited where the very top surgeons in their fields get to. in that sense, the other fag was right, since many more lawyers top out at higher amounts in biglaw partnership.

why are there so many people on this board constantly comparing law school and med school? I've never met someone interested in both, they draw people with vastly different backgrounds and skill sets. Anybody who was seriously deciding between med school or law school is only in it for "prestige" and is a douch.
